The last two times I charged at a DCFC I got a bunch of prison bars afterwards. The 2 times were about a month apart.
Has anyone else experienced this?
They went away 15-20 minutes into the drive.
I’m wondering if my cooling system is broken? ?‍♂

Have you checked the coolant? I'm guessing if it was too low, it would throw a check light/message but I've had to top up coolant on both of my Ford EVs.

Any chance your DCFC was faster than normal? It may have warmed the battery more and required a cool down period. I haven't seen it on my MME but I don't DCFC very often with that one. I have seen it on my Lightning, but I DCFC more often.

Unless it’s been unseasonably warm in your part of the world or you were visiting the desert southwest, I’d say this is a bit odd. Seattle and surrounding areas are hardly known for pushing the mercury in late October.

Dropped it off at the dealer today. They said they will look at it in 3 weeks.
Same dealer that told me to drive my car until the HVJB came in 3 weeks later and changed it one day. This time my car has to sit there in the queue. ?‍♂

dealers are the worst. Someone in FDRS thread can probably pull codes via your VIN and PM them to you..

I regularly get jail bars after DCFC. It goes away a few minutes after driving. I assume the battery warms up a bit while fast charging (as basic chemistry/physics would demand) and needs some time to cool back off before offering full power. Seems normal to me.

But the car does like to limit power when it’s below 50° or so. Or if the battery is warmed from fast charging. May be a combo of the two.

Dealer said no codes in FDRS.

A seemingly unrelated question: did you sit in the car and run cabin heating during those 2 charging sessions with prison bars? Was the HVAC heating the cabin and trying to cool the battery at the same time?

Not familiar with all the HVAC system intricacies, but it probably cannot handle all tasks with equal priority:

Not really. It wasn’t that cold outside and my temp is set to 68 in auto.

Got the car back today. They said it needed a software update. (Which reset all my settings including my radio presets.)

I haven’t had a chance to test it yet. Nearby DCFC stations were all busy.

So when you know what software update(s) is available and what module it addresses, the dealership looks you right in the eye and tells you that there's no available updates for your car.
But if your car throws some erroneous error are does something strange and unassociated with any known update, suddenly the dealership "fixes" your car and tells you the solution was an update. ?

Somehow they manage to have it both ways.

That’s why I make sure they can’t tell me there is an update…I know I applied them all in FDRS.

Go to the dealer and complain about something not working that you think needs a software update, leave it there for a week+ and they will get it done.
They don’t work for free. Mine was a customer complaint during warranty period that Ford paid for.
One other thing about mine were that both updates were part of TSBs.

I don’t even know if it’s fixed yet. I have to go to a DCFC to verify.

Just got a chance to DCFC yesterday. Went from 41% to 70%.
The issue seems to have been resolved.
