Not everyone pays taxes in the same way. Many people who are self employed, for example, can pay quarterly estimated taxes and sure they could add to it. But your quarterlies are based on previous years taxes. Therefore, if you made more this year you will owe uncle Sam come next April. So some people might want the break this year not knowing what next year will bring.

The difference could be paying 7k to the government come April vs the possibility of getting some back. There's been years when I owed 20k in April. That's not a fun thing. So if I knew that I had an upcoming bill and could purchase a car, claim some of the car as an expense and lower that amount owed via rebate, then for sure!
Calculating your quarter payments based on the previous year is just a guildeline. You can correct that amount manually. You can pay a couple thousands less each quarter. It's fine as long as you don't owe taxes in the end.

Frankly speaking - what is the difference what year you will report your tax credit....... If you need money then just correct your taxforms to pay less taxes every month or quarter.........
The tax credit isn't my issue. In Arizona there is a significant EV registration discount that goes away at the end of 2021. Only EVs first registered in 2021 or before receive the discount. For EVs first registered in 2022, the fee will be 25 times the 2021 amount. The fees for subsequent years are based on the initial registration valuation so a 2021 registration is rewarded year after year. That why, for me, the date on the paperwork matters.

Actually you can owe 10% in April and not be subject to any penalty

one benefit of having the credit early from an estimated tax perspective is that if your taxes are lower in 21 you can pay less tax in 22 and still be on a safe basis. Just cash flow Issues.

Which is what I said. Look, I'm not a tax professional, but everyone's finances are different. What they've paid throughout the year is different. I wouldn't question people's motives for wanting a tax break I would encourage them to do what helps them the most financially and get a great car while their at it.

Recieved email today(10/25) from Ford that my production date (originally 11/22) was pushed a week to 11/29.

Space White Premium AWD ER
I have the same build and color. Mine was 11/22 and pushed back to 11/29 as well. Today I got the email BUT I never got any previous one. My date was 11/22 as I saw it online and I noticed 2 weeks ago that mine changed to 11/29. But TODAY Ford finally sends me an email.

As far as I know, year is when it’s made, delivered is another story. I can’t imagine I will get in 21 although it would be nice To get the tax break for this year.
There’s still hope. Mine was built/shipped the last week in Sept and delivered to my dealer in Florida Oct 20.

Things seem to be getting faster in terms of production, shipping and delivery.

#1 tax credit might not be the same next year depending on what tax laws may change
#2 can’t take the credit unless you own the car. Doing the paperwork means nothing.
#1 I believe Mach E fits even the reqirements of the worst bill
#2 If you did the paperwork you can still claim that you owned the car........ I don't think anybody would try to question that claim

1: Not if they end up with a limit on MSRP or income level, who knows what will be . Not a given just a possibility. Nothing in the bank until it’s in the bank.
2: you can claim what you want but if you don’t have car in your possession and have ownership of it you probably won’t be eligible for credit. Property must be placed in service. Look it up.

but if you end of taking the credit I wouldn't be posting it here or anywhere.

called tax fraud.

Me too exactly, first Ford email after June 8 order. Hope at 11/29 build we get the 91 KW usable battery. Think there is a chance?

Several points:

1) The 91 vs. 88kwh is believed by most to be a software change. All Mach-Es with 88kwh batteries will soon have 91kwh accessible, so it's irrelevant when you get it.

2) Taking ownership of a vehicle that isn't yet in your possession is quite risky, as noted by some. You also have to insure it, and your insurance company may not be happy ensuring a vehicle that may be damaged enroute to the dealership and then they are liable. In addition, taking ownership of something that in fact isn't even in the US at the time is a dubious claim for a tax credit. They're looking for when you put it "in service". In service means you start driving it, at least home. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8936.pdf

Same exact story here. My GT was pushed to 11/29. First email from Ford. I think I got lucky on my order, since I ordered 8/31. I'm also in south MI. I wonder when we'll actually get delivery...looking like a couple months later for most.

So I guess they are doing GT’s and Premiums week of 11/29. The more the merrier as long as they hold to this date. Slim chance to get it in before Dec 31 but hope springs eternal.
