Hello,

I was finally able to test drive a Mach E (Standard) in late August. I put my order in that day for a Premium Extended AWD, as the dealer told me it would be "14 weeks, max", before doing any research about the actual lead times. :)

Long story short, I needed another vehicle sooner than that due giving my current vehicle to my daughter who now drives, and seeing that these are taking half a year+ now, I called around to every dealership within a 60 mile radius to put me on a list if any happen to pop up.

Saturday I got a call from a local dealer with a used Premium, exact options that I ordered, including color, but they wanted MSRP of a new one, for a car with 7800 miles on it.

I spoke to my wife, we went and test drove it and bought it even though we lost out on the tax credit. We were kicking around the idea of buying a used car for our daughter to use until our order came in, but that would have been a loss of money in the end as well with how high used car prices are right now locally.

I feel like a moron for losing the tax credit, and paying full price for a used vehicle, but I tried to talk them down, but dealers hold all of the cards right now.

Oh well, I got the car myself and my wife loved about 6 months sooner than we would have (If not later).

I was upset about it for a day or two, but am over it now. Especially with all of the horror story's about dealer markups. I wish I would have ordered earlier in the year, but I wanted to test drive one first, and nobody had one on a lot until August around here.

I'm glad I found this forum, lots of great information... now I just need that OTA software update to happen already.... :)

tldr; Bought a used Mach E with 7800 miles for full MSRP + don't get the federal credit. The market is crazy right now.

Yeah,

Thankfully I can afford the financial hit. It really came down to $7,500 or 6 months waiting... and making my kid wait. Love the car. The car has miles on it, but looks to be in flawless condition, and honestly 7800 miles is nothing.

Just normally a used car is you know.. cheaper, not more expensive. :)

It just stinks that the supply chain globally for everything is so messed up right now. I would have never imagined doing this a couple years ago.

Not sure if we can post links, but check out Oregon rebates on used electric cars, looks like there are a few!

Wow.... Thanks, I didn't even really think of checking that. I'll read up on it.

I do know my Power Company is giving me $500 towards my Level 2 Chargepoint Flex that I just purchased (Installed in 2 weeks) and the Federal rebate for 30% of the install fee's. I didn't think to check state things.

I probably won't qualify, but thanks for the heads up.

***I am not eligible. My income is too high.... damn... what a nice problem to have I guess. (It's close, I'm by no means rich, I am just a middle-aged IT Professional. haha ).

My dad (who admittedly has always been in a better financial position than I am - I should have listened to him when he said I should go to dental or med school LOL) always says "if money solves the problem, and you have the money, then you don't have a problem." Now the first time I have a conscious memory of him saying that to me when was I was a kid and I was cold at a national park, and he bought me a sweatshirt. I felt worried and guilty and that's how he reassured me. Maybe my dad felt worried and guilty that he hadn't made me bring my coat! LOL

Anyway, I can imagine your daughter is equally grateful to have your previous vehicle now instead of waiting 6 months, since we all know that is a lifetime for a teenager!

He sounds like a smart man... I wish I was a Lawyer like my sister... then I'd have even less worries. :)
And yeah, my daughter was thrilled when I handed her the keys to my old car (The dealer really wanted me to trade it in...).

It's just a crazy time to buy any new car, if I was smart I would have followed my gut and just ordered early in the year, but I was dead set in test driving one first.

Bottom line is you got a car you love....I bought a demo with just over 2,000 miles and paid MSRP. I had heartburn over it at first, but once I started driving the car I realized over the course of the many years I'll own the car, it just wasn't that big a deal.

Congrats!

Life's far too short to be troubled by that. Just enjoy the car.

My dad was the one who always drove the "junker" in the family so Mom could drive a nice car and we could all afford a good life. When time came for him to treat himself, he bought a gently used (2 year old) Lexus LS400. I distinctly remember him confiding in me that he was afraid he paid too much...and that bothered him. Cut to almost 20 years and 250,000 miles of trouble free driving later, I asked him if he still felt he overpaid. He didn't even remember feeling that way. May you have many miles of joy!
