We have a 22 AWD ER premium with 48000 miles and we are considering trading for a 26 premium. I have a couple of questions I would appreciate some insight on. This is the first AWD car I’ve owned and I felt the safety upgrade would be good. After driving it for 3 years, I not sure I feel any distinct advantage. We are at a point where if the weather is really bad, we just don’t drive, and it’s my understanding that AWD drive cuts off at a very low speed anyway. The only significant problem we have had with the car was the front motor, so no front motor, no problems. Is there any major advantage to AWD over RWD? Performance is not a consideration for us, we are not aggressive drivers.
Our only negative with the car is a harsh ride, to the point we installed the eibach springs which helped some. The ride could still be smoother for us. The salesman we talked with said magnaride was an option on the premium but I cannot find anything to say that is the case. If magnsride is an option, is it worth the added expense? Test driving a 25 premium we simply couldn’t find a bumpy enough road to compare it to our 22 premium. I guess that’s a compliment to road quality in Lenexa, Kansas!
Any comments on these 2 questions would be appreciated. We will probably do the upgrade but a little more information will be helpful.
Thanks all!

MagnaRide is not an option on the Premium...

AWD is always on, it does not cut off. However, it is rear-biased. It kicks in at low speeds, acceleration, or when it detects slip.

If I lived in a Kansas, with winter, I would not buy a RWD vehicle.

As to ride, I would find a rough road and drive on it. Most dealers will loan a vehicle overnight if necessary.

But, if I wasn't happy with the ride of the 22, I sure wouldn't be buying a new one.

Agree with RickMachE. Im my opinion there has not been enough improvements to warrant me purchasing a new MachE.

I’d hang onto the 22 for a few more years, save your money, then trade up for something much cushier like the Cadillac Lyriq V. That’s my current plan! I love almost everything about my MME FE except the annoyingly stiff suspension.

I’m not a Kansas weather expert but I have the RWD in Tennessee and love the extra range. Lose some power I guess, car is still quicker than almost everything else you pull up to.

I agree with this..That is my plan too (sans the Caddy idea which while it sounds compelling) I'd like to look and see what Ford does w/ the new lineup of mid-sized trucks...lets see what that looks like in 2027/28?

I bought a 2021 and the leased a 2025. We live in Minnesota and haven’t had a RWD for close to 30 years. In this frozen Tundra AWD is a nesscisity.

Differences we have noticed: Battery Range is less, they got rid of the shifter knob and put it on the steering wheel column, ( I don’t like it), the ride is the same, maybe a little bit better. We leased this time because the EV market in the US is unstable/shakey so we will let Ford take the residual value risk. The 2025 definetly has some charging characteristics that are different. It makes more noise while charging and the vehicle now has a heat pump that adds complexity and took roughly half of the frunk space.

Other than these things it seems to be the same.

We do know that tire choice matters at least as much as which tires are driving the vehicle, right? A 2wd car with winter tires will out handle/stop/pull an awd vehicle with all weather or summer tires, right? AWD is not "THE" answer.

Regarding awd vs rwd and snow tires, when I was a teenager in wisc, with a rwd car I always used snow tires but today, with awd I don' t need them. My opinion. Many people still put on snow tires every year, we do not. It works for us but to "each his own."

I also prefer the additional range and mechanical simplicity of RWD. It is fine in the snow /w proper tires. Though if you live somewhere with a lot of hills I can see AWD being helpful in the winter.

Thanks for the comments. We test drove a Cadillac lyric and optic. The lyric was nice but a bigger car than we really need. The optic just seemed cheap compared to to the MME. plus both cars were simply noiser than the MME and just a little boring to drive.
The more I think about it, I may just hold on to the ‘22 for a while and see what Ford comes up with from their new platform concept. We both really enjoy the car and it has a lot of good miles left on it.
Thanks all!

The Lyriq was noisier than the Mach E?? I haven’t test driven one but I find that shocking. Isn’t one of the primarily selling features of a Cadillac supposed to be the quiet cabin?

Both my wife and I noticed immediately on the test drive that the cars were noisy. Mechanical and road noise were obvious, especially on acceleration. We just felt the MME was the better put together car.

Recent year Mach Es are more comfortable

The Lyriq is a whale; 20% heavier than a Mach E, which is already heavy. They are also not as good looking as previous generation Cadillacs

They are also without hands on lane centering! The 26 Lyriq V is supposed to get it though

For early year Mach E drivers you may not appreciate the advances that Ford has made in hand on lane centering. For much of driving it already basically drives itself

A 3.3 0-60 is one fast whale. It also has a slightly larger battery pack than the MME and slightly more range, supposedly. Appears to be comparable if slightly faster charging speed.

The new V has lane centering standard and SuperCruise on the highways.
