The range for the Lightning is about what the range for the Mach E is, especially the extended range, and you say you have to milk it now when on the highway to keep the range going. It sounds like you might be better off getting a Tesla S, 3 Extended or a Rivian R1S Dual Max.

Can't help with the efficiency of the LR AWD, as I have SR RWD... but you'll probably find that your efficiency is better with AC on at highway speeds rather than having the windows down. My quasi-scientific experiments have shown me that windows down is more efficient under 40-45 MPH, which AC is more efficient above those speeds. This is in humid (dew point of 75ºF+) at 90-105ºF. My AC is usually set at 70ºF. Having said that, I usually run AC anyway because of the humidity.

Blasting AC in the summer and mostly driving in town, I usually get 4.4 to 4.8 miles per kWh. This morning, my car was predicting about 275 miles of range. However, I won't get that mileage at 65+ MPH. I did hit 70 MPH for a few miles here and there, but, like I said, mostly in-town driving. I would love to see what I could get on the old California edition with the LR battery and RWD.

My 2021 Cali Route 1 (RWD) gets 3.3m/kwh at 70-75mph and can go 300 on a full charge at those speeds. Cabin AC makes no difference, the AC is running all the time in hot weather to cool the battery. Turning it off to the cabin does not help and rolling down windows increases drag.

My RWD ER in UK is rated at “upto” 379 miles, in US that rating would be less and for an AWD would be less still.

Nowhere on the planet in any conditions do I think I’d ever get that 379 miles!

230max in winter and UPTO 280 miles in summer is best I always have managed to get so means I wouldn’t rely on driving 250 mile runs with no chance of a public charge, I’m afraid.

Fortunately I will only need to stretch the range (250m) for one trip home down the Baja. Our daily use is max 150km in a day, and not every day either.
We don’t have winter here so the heater will NEVER be used.

Only the MMe is locally supported, and then the Beemer. Then there’s the cars from Cheena….which I wouldn’t touch with a 10’ barge pole….(out of principle)

OK, but since you are talking about a one-time trip now, you need to be more creative in your thinking.
Folks here may be able to help more if you share the actual start/top points of this trip...
You can do an overnight stay somewhere along the way (a mini vacay), and charge, even 110/120 volts over night should give you the buffer you need...
Or bring along a 110/240 generator as a safety blanket...
Other option is spending 10s of thousands more for a vehicle with more range that is only needed for the maiden voyage?

You might be able to get a portable charger. It won't give you much of a boost (maybe 20-40 miles), but that may get you over the hump that you need. https://zipcharge.wixstudio.com/website

That part wasn't clear to me from the original post. Just drive slow. If it looks like you won't make it -- drive slower.

OK, if you are duplicating the Lightning origin - destination from that thread (Mexicali to Cabo) you can do it no sweat via Los Mochis, and taking the ferry to La Paz. Lots of options going down the mainland.

I remember when I purchased by 2022 SR Mach-E. Before the purchase, I was reading all the posts on here, and elsewhere, about 220 being the rated range, but Ford way underestimates that, and the car should get considerably more than that on a consistent basis. Fast forward to the first winter I was making my weekly 120 mile commute in 24f temps, going under 25mph with everything turned off, including the heater, praying I would make it home.

I must admit, I'm happy to see a more reasonable approach from most of the posters in here. Very few of the "Oh I'm getting 4.5 mi/kwh consistently" posts.

My advice: if you need 250 miles consistently, and have no charging options on that 250 mile trip, look elsewhere for a vehicle.

Thanks, I’ve looked into that, but decided against it for two reasons.
1. Sinaloa is no bueno and
2. the ferry ride is long and no fun either.
I think I’ve gained enough testimony’s here that I think I will try it with an extended range MMe.
