Hi guys,
I'm preparing to replace the steering gear. Does anyone have a manual or guide showing the process step by step? I'd like to know what I'll need to do and watch out for during the replacement.
Thanks!

Why are you replacing so many things on a 2025?

It's a my old Mach-E GT 2023. Unfortunately, the steering gear has too much play, and it's become noticeable while driving. After inspection, it was determined that the steering rack needs to be replaced, so I'm preparing for the job.

Przedmiot gwarancji?
[/CYTAT]

Niestety, gwarancja już się skończyła. Kupiłem nowy z zestawem montażowym. Teraz chcę przygotować się do naprawy, poznać kroki i kolejność czynności.

Looks dead straightforward to me.

The electrical power steering mechanism appears to me to be on the steering column itself, not on the rack/gear you’re replacing which if correct makes the job a purely mechanical affair.

So, I’d be centring steering wheel in car, removing frunk inserts, jacking & supporting car avoiding the longitudinal battery rails adjacent to jacking points.

Remove front wheels & front undertrims.

You’ll need a ball joint splitter once you’ve removed the nuts from the ball pins on each end of the old rack/gear.

Undo pinchbolt at bottom of steering column which secures to top of rack.

Release rack mountings and anything else required to get the rack out and almost reverse the process for installation of new part.

Ensure new rack is centred when you fit back to bottom of steering rack - compare with the old one you took off after centering steering wheel is probably easiest way.

You will then need to measure, and then adjust if necessary, the tracking/toe & steered angles of the front wheels upon completion and ensure the track/toe lock nuts are tightened on new rack/gear as they may not be tight from factory.

Looks fairly straightforward.

You’ll find torque settings from brief searches on internet.

This is exactly how I want to do it. These steps seem obvious and simple to me. The only problem might be whether the gear will exit sideways from the wheel.

Surely if you’ve removed the subframe, the rack should lift off and track rod ends pivot making it unnecessary to slide sideways?

Thank you, I have it but it doesn't have chapter "502-00 Uni-Body, Subframe and Mounting System, Removal and
Installation"

Won’t the rack come out without dropping the sub frame?

I’d be looking to leave subframe in situ if at all possible.

With frunk inserts out the way should give an idea if this is possible.

The only possible reason I can see that the subframe might need lowering at all is to drop the rack off bottom of the steering column which remains in situ.

Normally there’s some movement of the rack once unfastened, and column to facilitate this.

Removal of subframe’s a job I’d try to avoid though I might be proved incorrect.
