Just curious if any forum members have decided to replace their HVBJB before getting the SVS or SSN message, paying for it out of pocket.

Yep. $599 for the GT HVJB $544 for the Prem.
Install price ~ $1200
But you'd have to have a battery lift to attempt to DIY to save that $1200

Curious to hear from him. I thought I remembered him saying a while back that he was doing it but wasn’t sure if it was because it failed. I think it’s not an unreasonable thing to do if the possibility of failure is creating enough anxiety. If Ford eventually ends up having to replace these as part of a recall I wonder if they would reimburse those who paid for it on their own.

I did the footwork above.

If you replace a part that's not broken, that's your choice. I don't see a reason why they'd reimburse for that.

He posted it already in April. https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...-fear-facts-and-info-thread.18143/post-627556

If there is a recall of ANYTHING, manufacturers have to reimburse people who paid out of pocket.

We were past the 36k mile warranty on our second HVBJB failure, but thankfully it is covered under the 100k mile / 8 year drivetrain warranty.

Yeah nearly $2k for possible piece of mind. Remember even the '23's are SSN'ing

Why would you pay for a new part that is still marginal? Ford needs to re-engineer the HVBJB to make it bullet proof.
I’m not saying I would but the argument to do it would rely on the new part having a much lower chance of failing. It’s really a cost benefit analysis that ultimately depends on one’s tolerance for risk. For those who make longer trips and can’t afford to have this happen while far from home I think it makes sense.

It requires more than that. The pack also has to be resealed and the cooling system needs to be recharged. We've seen dealerships forget or improperly do both which led to additional issues.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the investigation into this component but I can tell you that many people of been talking about the drivetrain is deficient it lacks the number of sensors in order to properly gauge the heat and the reason why a lot of the high performing versions fail is because they're using the same components that generate far more heat than say the standard select model so the more performance you get out of your car them more likely it will happen according to many people I've talked with this is happened to me Ford replaced it at no charge but I still have this thing in the back of my head saying this component is going to fail again and it keeps me from driving too far from home with this car which is OK for now but Ford's marketing department really did a number on.

Yeah, there is no effing way I would service a $28K part (the battery) in order to save a few hundred on labor.

I wouldn't pay nor would I do it myself, when mine breaks it will be covered.

Also I agree they haven't fixed this problem yet.

When the part came out we were told that the new part is "more robust." We now know that it's not quite robust enough, but at the time I believe that we all thought the part was beefier. We'll let @markboris tell us what his thought process was. ?‍♂?
