Thank you so my car was just shipped. I would assume that this would be taken care of on new builds??
June 2022 or newer builds are good. The last day or two of May 2022 is good. Anything before the last part of May is suspect. ??

As much as I like my Mach-e, I have zero interest in dealing with the charging BS during a long term road trip. Fortunate to have ICE vehicles in the household for those kind of trips

I am considering going from NY to Florida
I have a 2022 GT (April 22 build}
What are my chances, I have only charged at home.
never tried the fast DC chargers yet,
should I attempt or what are my chances of getting stranded somewhere ?
should I go or should I stay ?
I have made a 1,000 mile trip and a few 500 mile trips. I would suggest staying at a motel with charging so you can leave with 100% charge. Also all service stations on FL turnpike have chargers, the 1st station headed south has only tesla tho.

I have had one successful "long" trip (not really long but still required a couple of fast charges on the way), but still don't know if I am ready for another one, especially considering that it will be at the end of November and the limits of the standard battery AWD.

ABRP suggests that a big chunk of the trip needs to be driven at a max speed of 65, and it's not how I normally drive, and I'm afraid that this self-imposed limitation will overweight the enjoyment of driving Mach-E compared to a perfectly capable CR-V, not to mention at least one lost hour for the charge.

From my previous trip I remember that ABRP is quite pessimistic even with optimistic setting of 3 mi/kWh at 65 mph.

I guess I'm looking for some encoregement from the experienced travellers :)

Two twelve hour days or three eight hours days roughly. I would more plan each day with a hotel in mind and use the Ford in car navigation for charging, double checking on the choices.

With charge stops it is easy to adjust the route from stop to stop. I would not plan on hotel charging as those usually get clogged up with regular sales and route drivers from clone nation, those guys know all the good money saving stops and exploit them in the Tesla's. Really, I look for hotels with a decent breakfast and rewards.

I personally choose "Avoid tolls" and this keeps me out of New Jersey and that makes me happy. Shooting down the Blue ridge is a lot more enjoyable than the DC corridor.

I have driven the east coast in a 85 Mustang, 92 Mustang, 98 Tacoma, 2002 Escape, 2006 Mustang and now our 2021 Mustang. I have to say the MachE was the easiest thanks to its modern amenities and the fact the charging injected pacing.

I also used ABRP on my SR Lightning.

LA to Las Vegas trip tends to be very conservative and directs you to charge more frequently than the actual range/capacity.

While ABRP said charge at 2 DCFC along the way, I only needed to charge once along the way.

Even with the settings set to 65MPH and 10% destination charge remaining...

I don’t know how you feel about the HVJB issue. I have a Dec 20 build, Job 1 Premium RWD. I’ve taken several long road trips up and down the east coast (on one now.) That being said, I don’t have a GT or AWD. I’ve had the HVJB software updated. I haven’t had to deal with that problem yet so I just keep driving it. You may feel differently. Dealing with that problem away from home, if it arises, could be a real headache.

As far as the road trip goes, it’s a piece of cake. The auto train is cool too (done that one way twice) but the rooms are mostly booked up right now. I95 has plenty of chargers. The Electrify America chargers are currently in pretty good working order to my pleasant surprise and they weren’t crowded either. There are also more and more high speed EVGo’s around the cities. If you get off that corridor (like down the Delmarva or the outer banks) it’s a little more challenging but it’s doable. There are hotels with level 2’s but my success rate on grabbing them is less than 100%. I think they now need to elevate from 2 to 4 plugs.

There’s only two stations - north in Lorton, VA (just south of DC), and south in Sanford, FL ( just north of Orlando).

I’ve done it twice southbound. It boards in the afternoon and travels overnight, arriving in Sanford around 9am. We got the full room with bathroom once and the roomette once with bathroom down the hall. The rooms with car will run over a thousand for two. Coach is more like two or three hundred each plus car ($250, I think). You get a full dinner with rooms either in dining car or your cabin and a continental breakfast. You can pay ~ $90 for priority car unloading - saves 30 minutes to an hour on arrival.

If you’ve done the I95 trip too many times with nothing left that you want to see or stop at, it makes the trip a lot more relaxing. There’s a bar car too (or you can just bring the cooler on board).

If you can avoid any long uphill grades and keep your speed under 70 you probably won’t see the HVBJB issue. Back in May I traversed some mountains in my GT-PE at 72 without issue. YMMV. ??

Use ABRP and PlugShare to plan your trip, along with the apps for the charging solutions you will be using. If you just came off of the freeway, drive at a low speed for a little while to let the HVBJB cool off before charging. Likewise, after charging, let the HVBJB cool off a little before getting into the throttle. Enjoy! ??
We are talking about the east coast. There are no mountains of any significance between NY and FL (the Appalachians barely count as “mountains” compared to what you left coasters have ?)
Oh, and we usually call them “highways”, “expressways”, “turnpikes”, or sometimes “tollways”. Very little is “free” around here ?

The only issue with the AutoTrain is that you still have to deal with the crappy beltway traffic. If you do decide to do the AutoTrain, do yourself a favor and get a cabin. It’s worth it.
If you drive, be sure to stop at South of the Border. I’m not sure a tackier tourist trap exists anywhere on earth. It’s worth it for that alone.
