So for DTRL we're looking at tapping that fat white wire? And this is the driver's side headlight?
That's the only wire that would work when the DTRL is on, but the strip will stay on long after you power down, like another 5 minutes.

Thanks! If the DTRL isn't on for those 5min, what's stopping it from being on in this same way? I don't understand what would cause this light strip to remain on for 5min yet the DTRL doesn't???

By the way, looks like the black and green was tapped, would it be any different tapping that second, what appears to be back and green, next to the white wire instead?

The white wire appears to continue supplying power regardless of the status of the DTRL. There may be more to the lighting controls than simple wiring connections.

Black and green is ground, you don't even need to tap it, just use any good ground.

My electrician mind thinks: if it's got a voltage to the wire then it should be on. No voltage, it should be off.

My electronics mind doesn't exist, but if it did, it would think something like: oh yeah if it is getting 12.3V the DTRL will be on but after the car shuts off and the wire supplies 11.7V the DTRL won't be on but that lower voltage serves another circuit which...

And yeah I figured as much for the gnd but might as well tap it for a clean install in one location.

Thanks!

Okay installed this today, pretty straightforward except getting that headlight connector off the back was not easy because some metal bracket is in the way (even with frunk pulled out). I tapped white and the black with green stripe. The light strip DOES stay on an obnoxiously long time.

Here's where I'm struggling: the hood does not close easily anymore. Anyone run into that and solved it? I taped it down very far forward already, I can't see where it might be keeping the hood open, but it won't fully latch. I have to really press down hard.

My usual method of closing the hood doesn't even work anymore (gentle slam), it REQUIRES a push from the top to get that last bit locked in and fully closed.

My hood has always required two hands to latch. About 6 inches on either side of center. I don't think I've ever been able to close it with one hand. I bought these lights but have been procrastinating installing them. Maybe this week!

Okay good luck. I repositioned the center just above the front camera, twice. At first, I followed the natural line backwards towards the front, then I made it completely straight across, then I moved it FORWARD, so it actually comes TOWARDS the camera not away from it.

Edit: also, the strip should start and end about 1" or so from the body panel above the headlights on either side, the light strip does not go 100% from one side to the other, there will be a slight gap on each side in order to center this properly.

I recently installed the lights using the white wire. It looks like a full 15 minutes for the lights to time out.

New product from a company on Amazon that claims to "automatically" turn off and on by detecting current change at the 12V battery. I have asked them if it will work with an EV and haven't gotten a reply yet. See: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C39TXMVR

Got a reply that makes me think they haven't tested it on an EV. One of the reviews went over what they found -- it stayed on for 15 minutes after they turned the car off and then turned off. It will work, but you may need to just wire it directly. I'm going to try installing it soon and test it. Keep running out of time for fun stuff. I wonder what the 12V battery does after you turn off the car. If anyone knows, that will help. Note that the price is down to $20 now, so it's a good deal just for the light itself.
