Got a good deal. All I did was go to the website and start a chat convo, it went pretty fast and easy. I declined the free satellite radio trial that comes with the car. Instead of signing up for the Premium subscription cost they asked for, $23/mo + taxes + a $7 copyright fee, I asked if they could do it for $8 total. They went down to $12/mo total cost, no commitment.

I'm happy to say that mine is $.03 cheaper in taxes. woo hoo!

It seems that most people who get the $4.99 deal, don't hold out for the Platinum for that price; they get the cheaper plans.

The only reason I have SXM is for Howard Stern, so Platinum is a requirement for me.

We've just stuck with Music & Entertainment (we don't care about Stern or Pandora). The last few years I gave in at $5.99. Used to get $4.99 but they seemed to hold the line on that 2 years ago so I caved there. Guess I'll push harder next time.

just called and reduced my rate to $5.44 per month for a year which includes all fees! I was originally billed $276.65 for a year and it was due to automatically renew for a year next month.
I never cared previously about the costs since music is a vital part of driving for me, but saving a few bucks is always welcomed!

SXM is probably the most egregious of the "discount game" subscriptions around. Cable and satellite TV services, sometimes broadband services, are notorious for it too. But for those we're usually looking at just a 20-30% difference in price. With SXM it's like 200-300%.

Newspaper subscriptions used to be the same way, but almost no one gets those anymore.

I'm also on the $5 plan. I went for it because I was paying $3.99/mo for MLB audio to listen to the Cubs. Cancelled that when SiriusXM offered me everything for $5/mo.
