The easy answer on a Premium is to move to a wider tire on day 1. Go to a 245/50/RZ19 in the Continental DSW06Plus. It is the same rolling size. The compound gives good grip but does not lose range. There is a study posted here that shows very little range loss on this width. The big range loss comes in the rim change. The rim Ford is given us has very good aero characteristics.

It always surprises me so much that people who live in areas where you could have summer tires don't. If your a Conti fan and you live in FL get the DW or the Michelin 4S those are pronominal. You give up so much dry and wet traction with the DWS so you can have light snow traction that you dont need

I checked the 2022 Kia Stringer page, and yes to me it is awful looking car compared to BMW, Audi and Porsche

To each his own, especially if that own includes BMWs current buck-toothed design language ?

The ratings on TireRack from testing state this is the quietest. Check those stats to see which tire fits your needs.

I agree, the tires do look skinny from the rear. 225 isn't super skinny but my plan is to put snow tires on the stock rims and then get a set of wider rims and tires for the summer. Narrow tires are generally better in the the snow anyway.

I'll admit, it looks strange from the back with those skinny tires. Kind of like a huge, yoked, strong upper body dude with tiny legs.

I switched to an 8" rim from Volvo using these 245/50/RZ19s from Continental. There are some studies that suggested the turbine shape is more efficient. So far, I have not seen an appreciable range impact.

It also gave me an opportunity to paint them and regloss them to my liking.

I did something similar when I first got the car put 245/50/19 Hypertrac Tires on it. I then experimented with 18" 225/60/18 Quatrac 5 and found them to be a better fit for my liking. The Quatrac is smoother and more comfortable without a compromise in cornering.

The Hypertrac it tire racks #1 in UHP All season. I do still have the Hypertracs in a 245/50/19 105w maybe 3000 miles on them and I would sell them. PM me if you interested

I have done a few tire “swaps” including wheels. I am not an expert but I have spent some cash making my cars better. That being said this tire is about 1/2” wider at the tread. So it will look better but most importantly to my, it will be quieter (not that the Michelins are noisy), and it will corner lots better. And I am not changing rims. I really like the gloss black on the red Premium but I am going to wait to be sure before I attack that.

IMO this car drives Waaaaaayyyyyy better with wider wheels/tires and a lower profile. I went to 255/45 on a 20x9 rim and handling and cornering is like night and day.

Totally agree with your first paragraph ...you're buying the car...wheels/tires can be changed.

I agree with your second paragraph (aero cover ?) but did you consider the comfort and technology to get the heated seats and steering wheel without those wheels..

Would have certainly gone that route if possible, but I got the car at $1500 under MSRP and it only had 80 miles. Everyone else was charging ADM so it was a deal I couldn’t pass up. Yeah, under MSRP. 80 miles, not a mannequin, nothing. Crazy.

Lots of good information on this site about swapping out wheels and tires. You can spend a lot of money, or you can spend a little. Look into “take offs” from Jaguar and Volvo as several users on this site (myself included) have had success with these without spending as much money as buying factory wheels.

And as someone above posted, there is a strong market for the OEM wheels if you decide to sell them.

If you get in the car and drive it, you cannot see the tires at all. Also, if you don't drive it the way your passengers hate, you will not notice any significant lack of grip. What you will notice is a quieter ride and more range with the stock setup. I have a Select AWD with 18". Mine are skinnier. You'll get over it. Going wider will likely mean taller, too. Your speedo will be off, since the revolutions per mile will be different. You can sometimes get close if you go with a lower profile tire. If you don't care about range or noise, get some aftermarket lighter wheels and wider tires. Make sure the offset is same as stock though. Your scrub angle will change, otherwise, and the handling will not be on par and the wheel bearings will have uneven wear over time.
