Agreed with what the others said above. I can also look up your pending updates if you DM me your VIN, or you can post it on the FDRS thread.

OP - can you take a picture of where you’re getting your current version from? I am almost positive that you are looking at your current “Sync4” version - which is just the UI. But people are getting confused and telling you about software versions for your entire car.

Either way, the major system updates are what update the sync version and it sounds like you may be a version behind in the UI. I don’t think you’re as far behind on system updates as some of the earlier responders were thinking you were though.

My latest update was that 6.8 power up I can open up everything but the frunk. Everything else opens remotely either with my extra key fob that I have for opening the front and rear and my phone is a key opens up everything except the front end. Has anybody ever seen that yet?

By that do you mean you're missing the frunk button entirely from the screen or do you see the frunk button on the screen but pressing it does nothing?

I was going to actually delete this, The button is there it just was failing to only open the front. Everything else was working, so I just went and restarted the car and shut it off and tried it and it worked fine.

Your dealer service techs don’t have access to FDRS. They only see updates for recalls and CSPs. They are correct that you would pay for out of warranty software updates, unless part of a recall/CSP. I recommend you post your VIN on this thread:

https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...nt-and-are-willing-to-look-up-info-for-others

It is reviewed by a great group of individuals that have access to FDRS and can read your car software status. They can see which of 40+ modules are out-of-date. If you are uncomfortable sharing your VIN publicly, you can DM them.

They can give you some great advice on next steps.

Did the previous owner purchase an extended warranty for your car. If they did and the module is part of the warranted part, updating would be covered by the warranty. My dealer confirmed this with Ford and a recent update was covered.

Good Luck.
Okay got it, the link doesn't pull up a thread but ill look it up and see if I can post my VIN there. I have to verify the warranty information (apparently the original dealership didn't do things correctly womp womp) but a dealership is helping me with that so hopefully I can get some clarity on where everything stands. Thanks for the information!

I can shoot you my DM with my VIN if thats cool with you! I have to get my tire replaced (ran over a nail in the shoulder of the tire, ugh) so it'd be nice to know where everything stands so I can ask the dealership for whatever help I need

okay got it, good to know. Yes, I will post the pictures of the areas i'm looking that show the car information. I guess I don't mind paying for an update for the car it's just confusing trying to figure out if there are updates available and what exactly needs to be updated.

I attached pictures of all the places I can find information about the status of the software

The quote of $215 is a bit confusing. Is that per module or $215 to get all your car modules updated?

If it's $215 per module, you could do it yourself for cheaper by getting a Mongoose-Plus, a laptop with a FDRS license, and a battery power supply. Many of us has upgraded our cars that way and none has bricked their car. Would you considered doing it yourself?

I was told if it's a module out of warranty it'd be $215 per module per update ongoing. So it would be $215 for every update they do. I have found a different dealership that I am working with now that's been a nicer experience so if they have different information I can update that here. I'm going in on Wednesday.

I would 100% be open to doing the updates by myself after I do further research. My main concern would be like you said bricking my car and then dealing with that hassle so once I understand everything better I would be comfortable doing it on my own

Ouch.
That means I just did $3200 worth of updates a couple of days ago, and that was just the updates that came available in the last couple of months. (2 vehicles, admittedly)

That's a brutal rate. Maybe 6 hours of updates. That's more than $500 per hour

It's rare, but I sincerely hope that dealer with the better experience will do the updates for you. At $215 a module, you can likely get all the equipment I mentioned and upgrade the Mongoose to a Vcm3 and still be on top!

It honestly is not hard upgrading yourself and there are fantastic people here who can help with any questions you have. I did it with the help of the kind folks in this forum.

I also made a cheat sheet for myself for the things I needed to do in this post, which should help you sort through that large thread, https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...ating-your-mach-e-with-fdrs.10217/post-818661

The only other things to keep in mind is don't do upgrades on a Sunday and pay attention to the lower right corner of FDRS for your battery charge level. It'll all make sense if you dive into this.

That's outrageous pricing. Some modules take forever to do. Some take a few minutes. You are money ahead so spend some cash to get a regulated power supply capable of sustaining 12V at 50A and a Mongoose Plus, then installing FDRS on a Windows laptop. ??

That said, I'm guessing it's a Service Advisor to whom you've been talking and not an actual tech. Most SAs do not have all of the FDRS and PTS information available to them They will look at your car's OTA dashboard and tell you you're up to date if there are no OTAs scheduled at the time for your car. Those people aren't exactly lying to you. They're using the information they have at hand and telling you information using the wrong words. ?‍♂?

yeah, i'm hoping that was specific to the first dealership I called because I can't imagine how much it could cost over the lifetime that I have the car if every update is costly.

thank you for the resources! I'll see what the dealership says and plan from there. Good to know about the Sunday tip, I'll start diving into learning about updating the car on my own because I have a feeling I'll have to do that since I'm planning on having this car for a while
