1. I wonder if they considered ride flat tires for the mach-e? 2. I see there are ride flats that look like they would fit these wheels. In fact, they are really the same price more or less as replacing the tires with the factory stock tires. I have never had them before, so if cost is not an issue, what are the downsides, if any to having run flats?
They may be a bit more expensive and could have a slightly harsher ride , having stiff sidewalls , but having driven them for 20 years or so on BMWs (or whenever they first came out) they have improved tremendously and in all the years after my first go around I have only had one flat with them. First two years of ownership I had 2 or 3 flats and they couldn’t patch them up. Now they can.

This is just my opinion. Nothing more. Does 50 pounds really mean that much to carry around? What if your fat vs skinny. Say your on a long range road trip. You get a flat a hundred miles from home. Kinda tough getting that spare tire at home than. I guess I am just old school. Been driveing 50 years. Yes, I can change a flat. Its funny though, my 2 sons cant, not interested. And after all the Harleys and cars I have been through in my lifetime. Tried passing things on to them. NO INTEREST. sorry to ramble. I get your point. Thanks.
I hear you! Just last week I had to explain how an ICE engine works to my 26-year old son. Block, cylinders, pistons, valves, crank and camshafts, etc. He hadn’t a clue and didn’t seem terribly interested. My 22 year old son, I’m sure, knows even less! End rant.

Yes. Tire was filled with sealant when they replaced it.
I've heard the sealant can actually ruin the sensors in the tire and cause the expense of having to replace them. I'm guessing this didn't happen in your case???

Wife gashed the sidewall on our MME, fortunately, tire held air and allowed her to drive it to the dealer. The problem is, still, most dealers do not stock these tires. Fortunately, our service director tracked one down, and we had it installed the next day.
I think run-flats should be standard if no spare.

Imagine if they only designed the 'frunk' in a shape that could accommodate a spare donut (not a full size)? All this new innovative design with extra storage in the frunk, but seemingly no place to store a spare. We live in strange times.

The car comes with free roadside assistance including towing for 5 years. Vehicle includes compressor that will inject sealing foam. Too many don't read the manual and then read the kit.
The sealant kit is rated at up to 50 mph, so useless if you need to travel at highway speeds. It's also totally useless in case of blowout or sidewall puncture. So far Ford's roadside assistance has been somewhat less than stellar. The first time I called them, I had to wait 3 hours before they showed up. The second time it was 7 hours. Fortunately, both time I was at a place where I could stay indoors waiting for service. In both cases the initial service provider went AWOL, and one or more additional provider had to be engaged. That's why I'm still paying for AAA.

Facts:
- temp-a-spares are generally rated to 50mph.
- you're supposed to drive to a tire replacement store, not 1,000 more miles
- people act like Ford just did this, and other companies aren't doing it. Our 2018 Fusion Energi had no spare.

Nothing new here.

Yes donut spares suck too. They were still better than a can of sealant. If I get a flat in the middle of nowhere on a freeway, I'm calling for a tow and not screwing around with sealant kit.

Also, the sealant cartridge has an expiration date. I think it’s 4 years.

Consider putting run-flats on the car.

Wonder if there is a good all season run flat for the mach e? Dam I hated those tires on my wifes mini..but I just dont like how Ford did the air compressor set up.
