I took The Pony in to get this problem looked at - my middle display has periods where it is dim or completely black.
I know the screen reset sequence (hold volume down button and right arrow button down for 10 seconds) and this usually solves the problem.
But we had an incident where we needed to turn the defroster on immediately and could not because we couldn't see the display.
Here's the response I got from my dealer:
Ford Mustang Mach-E SSM 50383: Middle display dim or totally out mache-service-display

I think the Defrost button changed to a Traction Control button on later builds.

I thought it was still there and traction control was an addition. Hopefully someone can chime in with 100% certainty

I think this is Job 1 / Job 2 difference. Job 1 only had Defrost, and Job 2 added Traction Control?

I didn't know that SSM 50383 was only for the stuck 1.7.1 issue.
Maybe it was hopeful thinking on my dealer's part?

Glad that there's a button to help, but I still want my dimming display to be fixed

my display went black a couple times (because of overheating parked in sun).... I took a picture and brought that into dealer to 'verify' even though they could not duplicate on site, they sent in request for replacement screen to Ford and replaced the screen and associated modules under warranty. my picture showed the instrument display 'on' and the center screen clearly 'black'.

They scheduled a Field Engr to come on the day of scheduled service to teach their Svc dept how to do the replacement.... completed in about 4 hours.

The dimming display was caused by the 1.7.1 OTA. There were a few issues that came up from that deployment. The dimming display was due to a bad or missing config file.

ooohhhhhh, so a trip to Dealer and requesting all available module updates ought to do it for the OP?

I don't know if that is able to be fixed by doing an update on the apim or not. This may be why his dealer pointed to the 1.7.1 stuck fix thats coming. They may be waiting for that for all issues.

The dim screen is one of the possible symptoms of stuck 1.7.1

Doubtful. Waiting for the official fix for the stuck 1.7.1 install is likely what needs to happen.
