I love the GOM. It is real source of humor as I drive.

I have searched and do not find this specific issue so forgive me if I have missed it.

I recently took my CaRoute1 in for the glass recall and the dealer said they would also perform any needed software updates. I typically charge to 90% at home and up to that point would register about 280 miles in my extended range. Immediately after the repair and update(s), a 90% charge has fallen to about 225 miles. I have reset the mileage system twice, and I am in Southern California where it was nearly 80 degrees f yesterday so this isn’t an issue with cold weather nor is it my lead foot.

anyone else have this problem and if so, is there a fix?

Cheers,
Mike
I had exactly the same experience and I can assert with 100% certainty it is not simply a GOM issue.
I got my 4EX Memorial Day (May) 2021 and from day 1 until Mid-Jan 2022 when I took it in for the glass recalls and 21P22 update I was getting 270-290 miles range every single cycle. That was not just GOM but actual range. I checked miles traveled against the estimates it was giving me and it was never >2-3% error which I found pretty impressive. It was reliably getting an average of 280 miles range across dozens of charge cycles and varied drives.
The day I got my car back from the dealer after glass recall and 21P22 update it had ~25% charge left from dealer so I charged it that day. Every single charge cycle since that day has been giving me 170-190 miles on GOM and again I checked it against reality and that is the range it is getting before needing recharged.
Please do not throw the "LOL, it's the GOM" excuse at this. That is not the case.
I know that the actual capacity of the battery has not changed but the software's ability/willingness to charge to that capacity has absolutely changed.
Whatever software update they did removed ~40% of my range capability.
I took it back to dealer and demanded they fix the issue (along with the stuck at 1.7.1 OTA issue I posted about in that thread). They told me they fixed it, reset all the trip meters and it should work its way back to normal but it has now been two months and it is still at the ~170 mile range. When I told them it was still not fixed they just shrugged and said they did all that they could do.

Mike, you are not alone. If you find a way for them to fix it please let me know. I will do the same.

How many miles per kWh were you averaging before the update, and what are you averaging now? Do you have an EVSE that tracks how many kWh it pumps into the car?

Give it some time. Do you monitor your mi/kWh? If so has that value changed?
I don’t but may do so for awhile. it may give me some piece of mind if it calcs out to be closer to the advertised range when driving in slow moving traffic, which I do daily. Thanks

If I recall correctly, when I had the the big mod update this happened to me. They had done a reset. My mileage hadn't really changed, butt the GOM restarted from factory settings. Trips 1,2 and kw/m were all at 0. As all the long-term owners have stated, kw/m X % of remaining battery is really close.
The difference here is that it didn’t return to factory setting. My original mileage was over 300m at 100% and was consistently around 280m at my normal 90% charge. This change is definitely a reduction over original factory settings.

Yep I’m expecting my dealership to do the same with a shoulder shrug and a “wish we knew anything useful about these cars” look in their eyes. I know many here have resigned themselves to the “it is what it is” acceptance of Ford’s terrible software in what I think is a great car and because I am stubborn, I’ll pursue this until either satisfied or defeated. I’ll let you know what happens…
Thanks??

Haven’t checked all that yet and will do thanks.

This happened on my Route 1 as well after the update, I took a trip Phoenix to Tucson right afterward, and used 49% of my battery to go 153 miles at 75 mph. So actual range was over 300, but GOM still read low when I arrived in Tucson (~120 miles remaining). The time constant Ford uses to compute estimated range is way too long, it does not compensate for current driving conditions at all.

My other EV is a Bolt and the GOM is much smarter than the Mach E. It changes immediately when turning the HVAC on or off and adjusts during a trip to current conditions, thus if you start driving at 70 mph on a highway, it adjusts fairly quickly to provide and accurate number for what is left in the battery. The filtering time constant on the Bolt is much shorter, thus making it more accurate.

In general, I only care about the GOM for the current trip, whether it is around town or a highway drive. That is why I prefer the Bolt GOM over the Mach E GOM. The Mach E takes weeks to adjust, whereas the Bolt adjusts in 15-30 minutes of driving. But in the end I have enough experience with both cars to know how far I can go.

No. It removed 40% of the indicated range. The distance the car actually drives is unchanged. Go try it. Charge to 100%, pick a location 85 miles from your car, drive to it, and drive back. You battery % will not be 0%.
