I owned my Premium AWD extended for almost 2 years now with 0 issues.. but 10 day ago, after driving the car all day, and out of the blue I started hearing a strong noise (video attached)and right after that I got a bunch of error codes including powertrain malfunction and AWD off.. I took it to the dealer and they said they fixed it with a software update.. when I picked up the car the noise was still there (but a bit more subtle).. they kept it, and apparently 3 technicians checked it.. they said it was normal and due to Regen braking.. which doesn't make any sense to me..
Any ideas on what the issue might be?

I'm certain you car is broken. I'm less sure what that sound is... bad bearing? Bad universal joint?

Yikes…

Don’t know what is causing that sound but it’s definitely a problem.

Don’t let it go and let the dealership blow you off and say it’s normal because it’s not.

Not normal for any car. Sound like suspension or wheel hub area.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! I will talk with the technician in person.. otherwise I will have to consider another dealer...

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Sound changes frequency with speed. Is it possible a piece of the inner fender plastic came loose and is rubbing against the tire? Or something is hanging down from under the car and dragging against the road surface? May be hard to spot when parked but moves as air passes by it...

Learn how to be a Ford technician in one easy step. Repeat after me, ā€œoh, that’s normalā€.

Yep, DEFINITELY NOT normal. I agree that it sounds like a body/trim part scraping against something (road, tire, wheel, etc.) The noise/vibration frequency slows down as the car slows down. Did they even test drive it? It's impossible to not notice and then say it's normal! Have them drive a new MME from stock and see if it does the same thing. It won't, so there's the proof that it's not normal. This isn't rocket science! I'm pretty sure its something simple.

Good luck!
