I have no confidence that any model, or year, Mach-E won't have a HVBJB failure at some point. Yet how many Lightnings have had this failure? Not one that I've read about...

I can't imagine buying a new Mach-E at any point due to this cloud hanging over it. Unless I read that some senior Ford exec announces they've solved the problem going forward, I assume it's coming again at some point for me.

I got SVS today, and the service writer just called me back and confirmed we'll need the HVBJB.

The first one made it about 11k miles in the GTPE. Its first replacement was in September 2023, which I think was just early enough to have missed the most recent revision of the part (LK9Z-10C666-C).

The second one did another 20k. So maybe the -C revision will finally be the part that does it.

My 2021 GTPE alerted 'SVS' with the wrench and red car ! emojis plus jailbars to 30% on 1/12/25, Diagnosed as an HVBJB failure (#2) today at the dealer. (I had a 'stop safely now' failure 36 months ago) . Got 32.5k miles out of the gen 2 part (Gen 1 part failed at 16.7k).

Ford will cover this under the powertrain warrantee.

I could live with this car and the HVBJB issues (especially with SVS failure mode leaving the car drivable), but I'm on the clock with this car due to the bluetooth drop problem making/taking calls/meetings on the road. Super dangerous as I fumble around when the phone drops to headset mid call and then jumps back and forth between bluetooth and phone speaker after I've switched to speaker. I've escalated to Ford and had the dealer look into it and so far 'software fix in the works' is the answer.

Happy to say I got my car back last night and everything is good again. 19 days from initial SVS to getting it back whole again. Dealership had it diagnosed in 15 minutes. I drove for 17 days with the power limit while waiting on parts and appointment scheduling. Then the dealership had it for 2 days. I left my mechanic a tip for taking such good care of my car.

Add me to the list. SVS hit me (again) today. This is post recall repair (2022 model). And tomorrow is my birthday, ain't that grand  . Still love the car. In fact, I'm just dreading having to deal with Ford/dealership again. Trying a different dealership this time. Waiting to hear back about a Mach-E loaner. What's that they say? Third HVBJB contactor is the charm!

Me too. I find it interesting that both times for me happened after charging at an EA DCFC station.

For all those having HVBJB failures, are you driving the car exceptionally hard at the time? Like flooring it every chance you get or does it happen just in standard driving? I’m just interested because I never had a failure in 3 years with my 22 GT. Now I have a 24 and hopefully won’t have a failure.

I don’t baby my car. But like I mentioned above, mine went out after DCFC charging both times.

My first died when driving normal, not aggressive, but in the cold. No DCFC. My second, I was in a hurry, AND it was very cold. Again no DCFCing. I believe DCFC was found to be a common enough stressor to be considered contributing, but overall, it’s been random enough that there isn’t any one thing you can definitively point a finger at and say “if I avoid doing THAT, my HVBJB will be fine.”

Both times for me happen on the same one to two miles of highway coming from the same on ramp. I'm never driving on that pavement again. It is clearly cursed.

Just providing an update on my experience (ymmv). Dropped car off morning of the 4th (my birthday actually). Dealer diagnosed, called me back and ordered the part. Car was ready for pick up at 2:46 pm on the 6th.

This took over a week the last time. Seems dealers (or at least mine) are much better equipped to handle HVBJB SVS issues.

Those are things that MAY make it happen, but not doing those won't prevent it. As @Mach-Lee explained in another thread, this winter a lot of older vehicles had it happen due to clearing contacts in cold weather.

It is, quite simply, a non-reliable part. Lightnings don't have this issue...

I believe the smart phone interfaces (android auto and car play) are transmitted over Wi-Fi not blue tooth. That may be a work around to fix the drop outs. Try Wi-Fi not the phone connected to the car via Bluetooth.

I'll take a look at this again and see if this helps. My past investigations showed android auto was doing media autdio and display/input via the USB-C connection but calls were not using that connection but instead always done over bluetooth. The recent Google Pixel phone PAAK break showed me PAAK was involved in my issue (calls got better with a broken PAAK), and dropping all PAAK from my phone/car has resolved the call quality and call drop issues between the phone and the car.
