I will be taking delivery in mid-June on a Glacier Grey GT. Working with an electrician for install of a 80 amp subpanel for a 60 amp dedicated circuit for the Ford charger. Dealer says it gets shipped to me after delivery. May take around a week.

When I go to take delivery, what suggestions, tips, or questions would this community recommend? I cant wait for it to get here but also don’t want to drive away with a ā€œdang it, I wish I would have….ā€.

i am trading in a 2016 F150 and do have a Ford Pass account for the truck and points

thanks in advance

Since you have no idea how long it's been sitting around since the factory, do a BMS reset (below).

Also ask if you have the new Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. If you do, ask them to charge up to 100%. If not, target 80%.

Neither of these are critical since Ford has designed a robust battery management system to tolerate however you decide to charge your car, but they'll help optimize the life of both low and high voltage batteries. My dealer delivered mine with 100% charge (old non-LFP) and it still works great.

Ford BMS Reset Procedure:
  1. Press the START button without pressing the brake to engage ACCESSORY mode. NOTE: Complete steps 2 and 3 in the next 10 seconds.
  2. Flash and release the high beams with the stalk 5x
  3. Press and release the brake pedal 3x
  4. Battery icon on instrument cluster should flash 3x
  5. Turn OFF the car and open the driver's door

It's a GT, so it's an NMC battery. The LFP doesn't have the charge density or the required power output for the GT. ??

@thx10 I would have them show you around all of the settings menus, how to set up Phone as a Key (PaaK), how to set up CarPlay or Android Auto, go over tow procedures. Before I got my 2021 I downloaded the Owner's Manual and read that probably 7 or more times. I'm sure I forgot some stuff... ??

Congrats on the new GT. I hope you have fun with it. ??

I know what the BMS reset does for my truck after a new battery, is it similar for an EV?

My brand new glacier gray GT came with underbody damage. Neither Ford nor the dealer would take any responsibility for it. After personal investigation and help from this forum, we (experts) determined that the damage is cosmetic. I will never pick a car up without thoroughly inspecting the underbody. I suggest you ask them to put it up on a lift for you.

Same thing. Honestly there's been numerous software updates that have really improved 12v battery management, so this isn't as critical as it once was, but still nice to reset battery age to zero.

We have a tiny 12v battery compared to gas cars since it doesn't need to start anything. It charges when the car is "running" or you're charging the high voltage.

Dea.er is required to charge to 100%, just like a full tank of gas on an ICE vehicle. Zero reason not to do it.

Congratulations! My number one recommendation is bookmark this site for easy access. Not exactly what you’re asking for on delivery day, but some of the people on this site have an unbelievable amount of knowledge and willingness to help.

Great description. I don't know why the electrical engineers don't incorporate these arcane steps into a 'macro' so users can simply press one button one time then the macro executes, pauses and on/off included.

Drive it, charge it, drive it some more and enjoy it, I just know you will.

I wouldn’t become a worrier about this or that, mind the 12V battery, recalibrate the other, control-freak everything in sight.

Seriously……ENJOY. Amazing cars.

Mines a June ā€˜21 delivered car, 115,000 miles of smiles, c350 DCUK charges and probably over a thousand more at home very many of which up to 100%, and still going strong and as enjoyable as day one, that first trip in the rain to Leeds & back.

God how I love this car.
