Tesla charging cable extension?

Hey folks, I had to make a quick stop and charge recently while out on the road and had a question. Due to the design of tesla cars and chargers - where they focus on serving a car with the port on one particular side - MME's effectively block two chargers: one because you're actually plugged into it, and the other because you're taking up it's parking space since the charge port is on the opposite corner of the MME than a Tesla. Not a big deal for a low traffic charging spot but when it's full you can get some dirty looks. Someone pulled into the blank spot I was effectively consuming and I had to wave them down and let them know I had that charger occupied. He was nice and there was another spot open so no big deal but it felt awkward.

Is there a cable extension (either with Tesla or connector on the end to go in the car) so I can actually only use one slot at a charging station like this instead of two?

No, there is not.

Park on the right end and you only use 1 charger.
Or, park in the trailer spot.
Or, occupy 2 spaces as Tesla recommends.

There was an attempt to make an extension but it never made it past the prototype stage.

+1. just park furthest stall to the right. Bonus points for parking in a non-charging adjacent stall so you block zero chargers.

Example: here’s me parked in the grass of an 8-stall V3 station furthest on the right.

If you have the option to use V4 locations they have longer cables, no need to take up multiple spots. You can use this site to filter on v4: https://supercharge.info/map

A2Z’s is in beta testing both user and influencers last I checked. Cords are floating around in the wild at least.

Feel like they won’t sell it until they have the newer designed approved that doesn’t need an adapter plugged in also. But who knows…they at least still claim it’s coming.

Last update I can find:

“The extension cord is ready, it is currently in the hands of CSA and SGS for certification and testing.
We have redesigned the female inlet in order to make it safer with a dual lock instead of a slider lock like found on our 1st gen NACS to CCS1.

Additionally, an OEM is doing due diligence on the extension as we speak and wants to ensure its safety prior to release.”

Another charging option-

A lot of the Tesla sites have a "handicap accessible" (to be clear-not a "handicap only" blue lined) spot which is a much wider Lane to park in and you will only take up one spot.

The attached picture is me parking terribly in that spot when I first started charging at a Tesla site.

Now I've gotten better where I can drive in diagonally from left to right. Then my MMEs left fender is close to the charger and maybe my right wheel and fender are in the crossed lines of this handicap accessible spot. But not crossing into the next parking spot

I try to be respectful and use a "non-parking space" as mentioned above. That being said, if I do get a weird look, I just remind them that their CEO is the one that is prioritizing money over convenience for their customers.........And by the way, thank goodness he is!!!! I started DCFC in 2021 and it was a ToTal S**T Show......It is a 1000x better now. But, like a dog that has been abused, when I pull into an EA station, I'm still a little bit uneasy.

BTW, the TESLA "hand-shake" is so freakin quick, I try to use TESLA chargers on the Road Trips but do acknowledge that EA has significantly improved.

As my profile photo shows, if you can pull up far enough the Tesla cable reaches. Unfortunately, not all Tesla charging locations let you do this.

Gotta love the front camera … and the R side SC when the adjacent R space is not a SC spot … for those who are interested, this is just off I 70 at the PA TPK at New Stanton.

But there we go, another option.

Granted with IONNA opening up some new sites in the last year think I could just cut Tesla also together on all the trips I make at this point.

In my 8 weeks driving and charging my Mach E, I’ve recharged at 3 Tesla superchargers. I appreciate having this access but positioning our Mach E so the short cords and adapter reaches the connector is at best awkward. The first time there were lots of open slots so pulled parallel to the curb taking up two stations ( see picture). In another case I needed to park at an angle with a second open slot to my left. As I was recharging a Tesla backed into that spot boxing me in. After I finished it took some delicate inching forward and back to unbox myself. Last time I do that and my preference when I cannot recharge ant home is an Electrify America or Ford dealership station with nice long cords tethered with a retractor. I hope Tesla might update the cords on their supercharger stations to be more usable for non- Tesla EV drivers.

I think I know what you mean. I believe I spotted that far left charger, if I remember correctly, along the L curb where you could pull in parallel to the curb, after I spied the R end spot and had already pulled in.
