Don't forget to buy a small padlock to help keep honest people honest. I have an 80A Tesla Tap too and it isn't cheap.

I bought and recommend the ABUS 64TI/25.
If you zoom in, you'll see my padlock.

Why would you say that when I previously posted that it is not reasonable to expect people to move their cars if the charge is done at 3 AM? I am just expecting people to be considerate of others.

In that situation I would move my car early in the morning, but not 4:10 AM. Or do what the OP did and use a slower charger knowing I am close to being done anyway.

How hard is it to be considerate of others, Rick? What happens when you need to charge and another car that is fully charged is occupying the charger you need? You think that is OK?
Just jerking your chain. You look at this from an absolutes perspective. In reality, many level 2 charging areas are setup with two spaces per charger, so swapping vehicles when one is done is easy. Or the charging hose is extra long. Clearly leaving a tag saying that when your car is done charging they can unplug it, if they couldn't then plug in, would be ridiculous.

We've charged at multiple hotels. Not once has their been full chargers. Car done at 4am. Don't move it when we wake up because they we cannot precondition, and leaving by 8am.

IMO, buying a Tesla Tap at this point is not necessary. We have driven almost 5,000 long distance miles and not needed it yet. Musk will be opening up his network in 2022 IMO. For the rare occasion where a hotel has only a Tesla charger and no Tap, we'd pick another hotel. The cost of the tap would not be justifiable to us unless we're on a very long trip and the hotels have only Tesla chargers.

We invested in an 80A Tesla Tap. It's over kill since we can only do 48A max. But if one doesn't get the 80A and is at a Tesla destination charger (EVSE) that can do 80A, a lesser Tesla Tap might not work.

We tested it out at our hotel the other night and it did deliver the full 48A / 11.6kWh.

We didn't leave it there, because there were only two Tesla EVSE's.
We moved over to a J1772 for the night, which was only 16A but fine.
We were to 100% by 1:30 a.m. well before our 6:30 a.m. departure.

Sure enough both Tesla EVSE's were occupied by morning, so I am glad we didn't do the self-servative thing of taking a Tesla spot when not needed.

Thank you for the post. I agree this is a great tool for a peace of mind when you really need it.

Do you know what Tesla charges to use their destination chargers? I know we can't use their superchargers.

We opted for a combination type rather than keyed -- worried that if we somehow dropped/lost the key, we'd be stuck with an adapter on the charge-port that we couldn't easily remove.

But yeah ... the adapters aren't cheap so I'd hate to come out and find It missing. If LockPickingLawyer (https://www.youtube.com/c/lockpickinglawyer) wants your adapter, he's going to get it. But the average person wont be able to remove it.

Tesla destination chargers are free. The electricity is paid for by the station owner, which is why you should check with them before using the station if you're not a patron.

You got me.

I do think moving your car at 8:00 is reasonable. Waiting until 10 or 11, not so much. I understand the preconditioning thing, but there are people who may need a charge more desperately than the convenience of coming out to a warm car, which I love by the way.

When I pulled out of my charging space at the hotel I stayed at in NC, there was a Tesla literally sitting there waiting for me to pull out. I obviously don't know how badly he needed it, but it must have been pretty bad for him to be waiting for it that early (it was 6 AM). There were no other charger spaces available at that time, but there was a fully charged Tesla parked next to me. He was fully charged when I pulled in the night before also, which I think is very inconsiderate. He left his fully charged car there all night, plugged in. What a jerk, IMO.

What we've seen for the typical hotel setup is two Tesla and two J1772. The last hotel we were at was having a problem with their J1772 and both EVSE's kept blowing the breaker. If we had already purchased a Tesla Tap, we would have had twice the options. Worth it for me for the peace of mind.

I agree - it is worth it just for peace of mind.

I used my TeslaTap at a restaurant that had three charging stations: one J1772, and two Tesla. I used a Tesla one because it offered a faster charging speed. So while the J1772 was available, I was able to get more kWh during my meal. So did I really need it? Maybe not, but a few more kWh reduces vacation travel range anxiety when there are no DCFCs in town.

A friend of mine has a high-rise condo building with a parking garage. The EV chargers are ONLY in the valet area. The idea being, they'll plug you in ... when your car is done, they'll move your car to put the next car in, etc.

Probably not a bad idea for hotels because you can accommodate more cars when you don't have enough chargers.

Not sure if you’ve googled Tesla tap before but the first result goes to a site that doesn’t sell Tesla tap. Also the main Tesla tap site looks really janky, so I just wanted to be sure. But yeah, I know how to Google.
Not sure this is a convincing argument.
