Not sure this is a convincing argument.
The site to buy the Tesla tap looks like it was made in geocities, so god forbid I ask for a link from someone who purchased it successfully just to make sure it was the right place. Why do you even care? Not like I’m asking about range in cold weather, forum god.

I like the TESLA MINI TAP. small and pricey. Looks compact and nice.

Still waiting for my car ( yes I know this isn't the Grumpy thread) and want to know why the 80 over the 60mini. And why is the 60 mini more expensive?? Other than you pay more for the convience of something small. Does it get nuts how many chargers you have to take with you so you are cutting down on space on the 60 mini?

Found this on the intenet for Taycan owners. How do we get a discount?

Thanks to all the interest here, the kind folks at TeslaTap have announced a 15% discount price for our group for their MINI 60A and MINI 80A adapters:
https://www.umc-j1772.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=17

For more information please see this thread here.
This adapter would allow you to charge the Taycan (or any other J1772 EV) using Tesla Destination Chargers, greatly increasing the potential charge locations.

The reason that I would go for the 80 is thinking toward the future when advances are made and there are more chargers and cars that can handle more amps. Convenience is usually more expensive.

For me personally, the space saving was not a factor. I only have an extension cord, the Ford charger and the TeslaTap. Everything fits in the space under the hatch "deck". I figured I would not use the TT very much, and it is for piece of mind, less range anxiety, etc, so I got the least expensive one that can handle 48 Amps.

The maximum current the MME will draw is 48 Amps, which many have said requires the 60 Amp TT. I went my own way, and although I understand the purpose for the 125%/80% NEC rule, I doubt I will ever have an issue with overheating. Just my opinion. The 50 A TT is very robust, and I think it can easily handle 48 Amps for a long period of time. But that is just my opinion. If you get one and it melts because of overheating, don't blame me!

The 80A is overkill as you won't ever exceed 48 Amps, but it is cheaper than the 60 Amp mini.

I certainly hope that with more and more non-Tesla EV's on the road, it will be less and less likely for any of us to use a TeslaTap in the future. I have a 60A TT MINI on order for an upcoming trip, where the location has more Tesla destination chargers than J1772 plugs (and the latter max out at 32A), and having to sit in the vehicle while charging I will certainly appreciate the extra 16A I may be able to get. A local place where I spend a few hours weekly has a similar setup and I will try out the MINI before the road trip.

If one focuses on the material cost to make the TeslaTap devices, their selling price is rather high and no one is likely to recover that expense from "free charging" alone. That said, the extra convenience is worth the price to me.

In quite a few of the PlugShare reviews I read, people said "ask at front desk for Tesla Tap"...

I agree, will never make back the cost and down the road there will be more 1772 plugs but, if i need it in an emergency I will be glad to have it, I have friends who have teslas so when I go to their house I can use it to charge on their charger.

I might also wait a bit to see if Tesla Tap comes out with an adapter for Tesla Super Chargers assuming they are freed up for the rest of us to use. Hopefully a future “Tap” can handle level 2 and 3 Tesla charges.

The mach e can only draw down 48amps at max, so the 60amp rated Tesla tap will cover you. If you pull up to a higher rated Tesla destination charger, the max that will be distributed out is 48 amps due to limitations of the MME.

Future proofing w the 80 is if you are thinking about using this with a different vehicle in the future, not for this MME

I went with the 60amp mini just bc of the smaller size.

When the Superchargers are open to everyone, no Tap will be needed... This was announced 6 months ago.

Yes I am thinking down the road, new MME or any other EV. I believe there will be tremendous changes in the next few years and decent chance I will change cars at that point.

You don’t think you will need some type of hardware to make it accessible to the MME?

Nope. They stated in their call, confirmed by Musk to a senior executive, that no adapters will be needed. Therefore, buying a Tap for that purpose is simply wasting money.

I didn’t realize the existing plug on the Tesla superchargers could plug into the MME without an adapter.

Tesla will equip their chargers with any adapters / modifications needed.
