Hi All, Newby here!

Well I took one for a test drive yesterday and absolutely fell in love with it, fabulous car.

The trouble is I went to the showroom with the idea of buying a standard range RWD version in red. The test vehicle they have unsurprisingly is an AWD extended range model with all the extras.

So my problem is I can't really afford a 57k car so how much different is the RWD standard range car to drive? Will I be disappointed with it in comparison because 43k is a lot to pay for a car I'm not totally happy with.

Your thoughts and advice sought.

It's pretty clear if you look at the specifications for the vehicle. You made a key mistake - you drove the higher end version, and fell in love with it. Therefore, it's likely that with the lower end version, if you can remember your experience, won't be as satisfying.

The standard range RWD does 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds. The Premium with AWD and extended range does 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds, i.e. 4 tenths of a second faster.

The bigger difference is in driving a RWD vehicle vs. a AWD vehicle. That front motor kicks in when you stomp on it, and you do feel that difference.

But if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. Here in the US, there are Selects on dealer lots, but perhaps that isn't the case in the US.

Find out if your dealer will fully refund your deposit, and if so… place an order and get in line. And let them know that you’d like to test drive a standard RWD when/if there’s one on the lot. Or, when your car arrives, take it for a drive… and either accept delivery or not.

I also was only able to test drive an AWD extended range model, but I’ve been in a Chevy Bolt for 2 years and I know that all EVs have great torque and are zippy fun to drive. So, my RWD may not have quite as much zoom to it as the AWD, but it’ll have plenty enough for me… and will still put a smile an my face. But, as they say, your mileage may vary.

And it’ll still look fantastic, have those comfortable seats, and a build quality that puts other Fords to shame.

It's actually worse than that. The standard range RWD does 0 to 60 in 5.8 seconds. It's the standard range AWD that does it in 5.2.

Having had an unlimited test drive with the 4X me and my Wife both had to have it!! We spent more than we should have but were able to justify it due to the tax incentive.

Op probably didn’t have a choice as to which version to drive. Now that many dealers have sold their demo car, it can be hard to find any Mach-e to test drive. I had to call around all the dealers in my area and ended up driving over an hour to test drive one, and it was awd.

I agree with the others. Probably going to be hard to go basic once you experienced the premium. But you wont know until you actually see and try one out. Good luck and welcome!

Thanks for your replies.

I could not find a dealer who had a RWD version for me to test drive.

I've owned fast powerful cars in the past and can honestly say the difference between the AWD and RWD version with regards power and acceleration will not be a concern. I rarely make use of the majority of performance available to me in my present vehicle.

It's more about the glass roof, sound system and all round camera that I feel I would miss having.

The new models for 2022 seem to have made ordering exactly what I want overly complicated in the UK.

Never test drive a V8 before you drive the V6! Learned this from my dad. ?

I think you will probably notice more wind noise since the Select doesn't have the acoustic laminated glass. The pano roof is a take it or leave it thing for me. I wouldn't care if I had it, but I do have it and the kids like looking out when I have them in the car.

The 360 camera is a must for me as well, I think there is a tech package for the Select though that adds it with Blue Cruise?
