I've had a Mach E for over two years and never had a charge fault. But, I've also never used the Ford charger that came with the car.

My daughter has had a 2023 Mach E for 2 months and the last two nights she's had a fault error on the Ford charger (the one that came with the car). It has not charged at all. She says that the button next to the charging port is red.

Anyone have any advice that I can give her?

I’ve had a charging fault a few times (red lights and won’t charge) and it was an issue with the EVSE. I read somewhere that if the milli-volts returning at the plug don’t make sense, it will give this fault. It has only happened with the Autel EVSE at my work and after I update the firmware, no more issues. So, not an apples to apples comparison to your issue, but the moral of the story may be the same. Have the mobile charger checked out by dealer (under warranty) and see if that resolves it.

My juice box occasionally give a charge fault. I think it has something to do with a ground detect fault. I have to open breaker to box, let it sit about 15 minutes and then re-close breaker. It then works fine. I had a electrician friend check out my installation and he found no issues.

Turns out that it's a car issue. We tested it on 3 different chargers including the one at the dealer.

Unfortunately the dealer says they can't offer a loner until Ford Corporate opens a ticket. They said that this could happen within hours or take up to 5 days. They said there's no rhyme or reason as to how long it takes for Ford to respond.

Call the BEV team, (800) 392-3673 and get a case started they might be able to help you faster

Yes, it's looking like the on-board charger has failed and needs to be replaced. In the meantime, the car can still be charged with a DC station, but AC won't work.

As stated above, best to call and get a case started with the BEV team.

The BEV contact gave my son-in-law the same song and dance as the dealer. Said the problem had to be reproduced first. Well, I was there at the dealership when the tech plugged it into the L2 charger and it failed immediately.

Seems there's no where to turn to for ombudsman support at Ford.

That’s a bummer

They were very helpful to me when I needed them

Try calling again and speak to someone else or escalate to a manager

Try this person who helped me

Update:

My son-in-law informed me this morning (Friday) that Ford determined that it was a "secondary onboarding system failed on the Mach E". He said that, and get this, they have the part in stock! And they think it will be done today or they'll supply a loaner. Imagine a Mach E in the shop for only 3 days! A miracle.

That's the on-board AC charger = Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Module (SOBDM)
