Can you sell your vehicle to an online dealer? I don’t know how taxes work where you are, but if you can sell it to an online dealer and get enough for it to offset taxes like how it works in Georgia I’d personally do it just to flip the bird to your dealer so to speak.
Thanks for the suggestion. Those online car resellers don't service Hawaii, which I think is understandable given the costs and logistics of shipping. It's a shame, too, because they still let me put my car through to offer a quote, and it was significantly higher than I had expected. The fact that Hawaii is so closed off from the rest of the country is probably why we get shafted; a lot of these local places don't have to compete. If you live here, you're a captive audience.
That’s a bummer. Could you sell it private party instead? Might be a hassle but screw these dealers that don’t treat people fairly.
That's the route I'm taking. If they wanted to lowball a little bit and say I'd sort of be getting the difference in money saved in taxes that might be fair, but they're so far off that they can't even claim that. Oh well, who am I to tell them how to run their business.
