Hi
I bought my mach e last week and I just got ticketed in toronto for no front plates, the dealer did not have it and I kinda liked it without front plates, so I was prepared for it.
should I just pay it or fight it?
Thanks

"The dealer didn't have a front plate mount, so they ordered one for me but it hasn't arrived, your honor".

Since you were prepared to be stopped, you got your wish, so the above would be untrue.

That make no sense and I don't think it will hold up in court. You would need concrete proof that the dealer only had one plate and there was no way for them to give you two. Are you going to subpeona the dealer to testify to that fact? Just pay it and get both plates.

Lol, but I guess Im gonna use gemini to add a plate and fight the ticket. Its only 85 though
I'm not a lawyer, so whether and how you fight the citation is up to you, but fabricating evidence over $85 is wild. Posting intent to do so online beforehand is even wilder.

That reminds me how much I enjoyed a decade of U-turns in Alberta at signalized intersections, because a transportation engineering professor told me they were legal. Best decade of my life.

But, when I finally got a ticket, I decided to pay the ticket, and end the ride.

Fight the ticket on what basis? You're required to display the plate and you didn't. Take the L and get the plate mounted.

I don’t think you have a case. Plus, it’s not a moving violation and not worth fighting.

You don't have to mount the plate. Just tape the plate to the front bumper and Take a picture. They will reduce the fine.

I’d just pay up and get on with my life.

If anything like the UK, and the law says you must have a front plate, though seemingly a trivial offence, still is an absolute offence so there is no defence.

I expect the fight, if you’re prepared to take it on, is likely to come at a cost of time, money and legal expenses and/or additional fines and penalties.

Chances are that the cop has some evidence of your plate not being mounted (dashcam from his car or something) so trying to fabricate something from Gemini seems incredibly stupid.

And I'm not sure if it would be different in Canada - but the way I'd interpret the law here is that if you're required to have two plates mounted properly, it's not the dealer's problem if they don't have a bracket for you. You're still the one responsible for ensuring they're both mounted properly - even if that means buying a bracket yourself and mounting it.

And I say this all from experience as I didn't mount my front plate when I bought the car and go away with it for a year and a half. And the bracket for mine came with the car and was in the trunk. I just didn't want to mount it. Eventually got my ticket, paid the fine, and mounted my plate. And mine was $200 after all the fees.
