I have WA DOT 'Good to Go' toll road/bridge and a condo garage door passes. I know the condo one works, but it is not reading. Does anyone know whether that windshield has a metallic coating which could stop the radio signals from getting through. My condo 'good to go' works if it is held out the window, but not from the inside of the car. I am going to get another State DOT pass - I can special order one for exterior attachment, but prefer the 'inside the car' ones.

There's a dotted area next to the rear view mirror. Put transponders there.

Thought it was just me when I attempted to use my EZ-Pass recently. I use it infrequently so I store it in the glove box and hold it up to the windshield when rolling through a station. The first time I used it in the Mach-e on a road trip through PA and VA it didn't register either time when we rolled through. Contacted the PA EZ-Pass support and was told it was a dead battery and was issued a new one, but thought it was odd since it worked months prior without issue in our Nissan Rogue before we got a CR1.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, but I had a similar issue.

You have to place any transponder in the black dot area on either side of the rear view mirror otherwise it will not work. Same goes for radar detectors otherwise they will be severely neutered and you'll probably wonder why you got caught speeding.

Thaks for the responses. For those who are unfamiliar with these passes, the transmitters on doors or highways transmits a signal with enough power for the 'pass' to collect it and message a code back to sender. Hence there is no battery to keep charged on that little sticker.

The upper area will be impactful to laser detectors. I went to a local car electronics shop and asked specifically about the IRR windshield impact on detectors. The shop engaged with K40 support team (I was considering a K40 Platinum100) and their reply was to not rely on an interior radar/laser detector in the Mach-E.

Remote sensors (behind the bumpers) is an option but too costly in my mind (this shop was estimating $2,500).

You can do it so long as it's mounted up top. For escort I make a custom mount and sell them to forum members just for that purpose.

Glad I don’t go on toll roads. I hate putting things on my windshield. They should be designing other less intrusive places to put these devices.

I wrote to my state of Minnesota years ago to get a state parks plate instead of the windshield sticker. I’m sure others did the same. They were introduced 5-10 years ago.

My area has two forms of passes, one you put on the windshield, one you mount with screws to usually the bumper or similar in a waterproof housing. The windshield mounting is more popular, and is generally done near the rear view mirror to stay out of the driver's view. Now that we have switches for number of passengers, they may have phased out the external mounted one.

Our bridges in the bay area have removed all toll personnel. You can go through with just your license plate and they will send you a bill. I have an account and register all my license plates, but I also need the tag to access express lanes, which use dynamic pricing.

My machE gets "half-off" (CAV discount) for the first three years. That means as a 1 person I pay like I'm a two person (half the posted congestion pricing), and when I have two people it counts as three (free). The system is kinda new and we're getting used to it up here in norcal (socal had it a few years before us). It wasn't a reason to buy the car but it's really nice.

Most toll transponders come with 3M duallock mounting squares. The transponder comes off, and all that is left are 2 transparent velcro-like tabs.

Not true, friend.

Non-battery tags exists (NFC uses that concept, most office security badges too), but for car-based use passes require batteries. Car-based use has to be far enough away (requiring more transmit power), and moving through fast enough (time to charge and respond is low), and you can't do the "hold till you hear a beep" (in case the charging is slow), that you need batteries.

Here's the page from your area:
https://wsdot.wa.gov/travel/commerc...ion-e-screening/transponder-support-questions

It says no *user replaceable* batteries. The batteries last 3 to 5 years, then you return it and get a new one. Therefore they have batteries.

The ones in norcal have batteries:
https://www.bayareafastrak.org/en/support/fastrak-basics-faq2.shtml

A dead battery is def. a possibility, although in this thread I learned about the zones. That matches my experience: I was trying to hold mine in the first few weeks and it wasn't sensed. I then invested in some 3M Dual Lock, got it in the right place, and all's good now.

I always loved Velcro, now I am a dual lock adherant for anything that doesn't need the flex of velcro.

Batteries, Velcro. I don't know fellas. Eight, ten years ago we had one that velcro to windscreen.
Now we have a sticker about the size of a one inch bandaid. Not as thick. Works on all toll roads in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. One I have is over six years old.

Can you send me details on the mount you sell?
