What's the main reason for trying to trade? (not trying to talk you out of it but reality is probably any 2 year old trade in is going to take it in the shorts currently)

Has anyone traded their Mach e in?
OMG I can't believe the value has dropped this much.

The dealer is telling me even equity right now, and I have made an extra payment of 1000 every month for 18 months.

6 months ago CarMax type companies were offering more than what we paid.
In "normal times", one would always take a bath on their car value if they were planning on selling it within a two year window.

It appears we have reached the level of normalcy. ;)

I tried my hardest on this forum to convince people not to pay ADM. Back in the day, one would most likely be able to negotiate around 3k off the MSRP sticker. With that being said, you would expect to lose (depreciate) a substantial amount when driving it off the lot even after paying 3k under sticker. If you didn't expect to own it past 3 years, you would take a hard hit if replacing it with a new one again.

My suggestion to you is to not trade it in if you don't need to. Let the laws of averages kick in and keep it a few more years and then sell/trade it.

If you trade it in now for something new, you will be writing another thread a year from now on how your "new" one has since tanked.

Good Luck!!!

Yep, and a hidden cost of the tax rebate is once retail vehicles became easier to get, it is a heavy downward force on used car prices. If a new MME was $55k and they got a $7500 rebate, why would someone give you $45k for your two year old one? That was working out for people for about a year there, since retail orders were nearly impossible to get in the near term. But my local Ford dealer has six on the lot, so that rebate is going to have an outsize impact on used EV values.

Tesla used values were really strong for a few years because they had blown through their tax rebate. While they are still pretty strong, we are starting to see downward pressure on even the extremely resilient Tesla used car market due to the combined forces of lowering the retail cost and them being eligible for the tax credit (for now).

After the new rules take effect if the MME loses half of its tax credit, the used values may start to rise by a modest amount, but I wouldn't expect to see anything like we did for a while there. That was a flash in the pan of over 120 years of car sales and anyone that paid ADM or more, well, I just hope they really like the car.

Bought a California Route 1 RWD on 8/7/2022. Then bought a Premium ER AWD on 8/15/2022. Sold the CR1 back to the dealer a month later for $1k more than my out the door cost. Dealer sold the CR1 for $8k more than they paid me. Compare that to January when Ford offered me $50500 for the Premium when the Ioniq 5 I ordered came in. Kept the Premium for multiple reasons. Then in March Tesla offered me $46k towards a trade in for a Model Y. Kept the Premium because the MY was noisy, ride was way worse, and I didn't like the constant braking when letting off the juice.

I did and CarMax is afraid of them right now. They told me that they has to dump 300 Teslas at the auction because they could not sell them.
Funny you should say that. I live in the SF Bay Area, (home of Tesla) and a 2-4 year old Tesla Y is going for $25K to $30K. Model 3 are under $25K.

I definitely wouldn't go based off the dealer, even with the market was insane they were still playing typical dealer shenanigans. Why not actually try CarMax and see how they compare?
CarMax a few weeks ago straight up told me they don't want used EVs and offered me $40K for my 6 month old 22 Premium AWD ER with 5K miles. In various dealer trades I was offering low-40s to a max of $45K. That's $14K+ price drop in 6 months.

Used car prices are low but not that low because that same day CarMax insanely overpaid for my used Bronco - $7K more than my OTD. I basically threw my keys at them and ran away with the check.

I don't intend to sell/trade my Mach-E as the Ford Options plan is a sweetheart deal. Back when family visited in Jan... I drove them around in the Mach-E and not my i4 which was the death knell for my i4 since I knew it was not as practical. The i4 is a better EV in many metrics except cargo and passenger space.

The Toyota dealer that I traded in my 2021 Mach-E RWD SR back in the fall.. basically told me they took a $8K loss and sold it sometime in the spring of 2022 to be rid of it.

Just to put it in perspective:

In July 2022 I got $62,000 for my 1 year old Premium AWD ER with 9,400 miles. FYI, that was from a dealer (not mine, and not a trade), not a service.

Yup. In October 2022.. I traded in my GTPE for $72K (paid $69K) for the 22 Premium AWD ER as I got nailed for speeding and wanted more practical range. These days.. you'd be lucky to get $55K for the same GTPE.

It looks like we are not alone Tesla dropped huge also. In my area, the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 seem to hold their value but nothing else is.

Those two have not held up values at all. I was looking at an EV6 First Edition for $46K. MSRP was "$59K plus markup" only 9 months ago. It was sitting on the lot for 6 months unsold with biweekly price drops. Dealers still think they can get premiums for used EVs but they simply don't sell.

Welcome to my world, i have been getting the same crap offers from Carvana and the like. Something like 28-32k for a 21 with less than 20k miles on it. I bought the car for 52k with a 30k down payment, so i'm basically trapped with this thing.

I want out so bad. I've never made this big of a purchasing mistake before. I'm over waiting and praying that this car gets better. (laggy screen and crappy half-baked tech overall) It ain't going to happen.

Welp, anywhooooo, off to the dealer next week to see how many problems with my car they can fix ...
