Trunk not auto unlocking

Hi all,

I have a 2021 Rt 1 and it is acting weird. When I walk up to the trunk, key in pocket, it won’t unlock for me. Each time I press the button on the underside of the lift gate, the lights flash yellow, but it doesn’t unlock. If I press the “unlock” button on the key fob, then it opens fine.

Weird thing is, it used to work fine. Walk up, press button, unlock and open. Now it doesn’t. In fact, it’s gone back and forth. When I bought it, it worked as predicted. Then it did this won’t unlock thing for a month. Then it went back to normal. Now it isn’t unlocking again.

It feels like a setting I accidentally changed, but I can’t find it. Any tips?

And sorry if this is a FAQ — I searched the forum and couldn’t find an answer among all the other lock/unlock issues. Thanks.

Maybe double check the setting and then turn it off and on, if it is already on, for "power liftgate?"

It could also be your key fob remote battery is low. If you have 2 fobs, it might be worth giving the other a try. If not, try replacing the battery on the fob you do have.

Lastly, the manual states it could not work if your 12v battery is low. Do you notice it not working after its been sitting overnight? Maybe first thing in the morning it doesn't work right but then you drive it a little bit, maybe stop at the store, then go to open it and it works fine?

Nope, My RT1 has been behaving the same way since new.

Its 50/50 if the trunk will open when I walk up.

Sometimes, like after an OTA, I get a nice stretch where it works. Other times I get a stretch where it doesn't.

Just another quirk of the car.

Hi all,
Thanks to all who replied. I have a possible, unconfirmed, temporary workaround. On two occasions, When the trunk was not unlocking properly, I tried pressing the trunk open button (twice) on the remote. This unlocked the trunk, as expected, and the unlocking issue also was fixed for a couple of days. That is, after trying this, the trunk started unlocking as expected. As least for a while.

Now correlation is not causation — I don’t know if this action caused the temporary fix or was just coincidental. But for anyone seeing the same issue, it might be worth a try.

I got the same issue recently. And it seemed like entering valet mode and exit that solved my case

I've had that a couple of times. Going into the settings and changing the "unlock all doors" to "unlock driver only" and then back to "unlock all doors" it has fixed it for me in the past.

I have a 2023 RT1 and it also just stopped a while back, key fob works fine to unlock it, the auto unlock works fine on the doors as well. Just not the trunk latch.

Hello,

I own a 2022 Ford Mach E Route 1. I've noticed the trunk doesn't auto-unlock. Its worked a few times in the past, but lately it doesn't work at all. I tried some of the suggestions provided by other Mach E owners (enter and exit Valet mode) and disable/enable auto-unlock. None of them seem to work. Can you please provide some suggestions. This is a real pain in the neck especially when I have my hands full and the trunk wont unlock.
