Okay... long story.. have a Premium Extended AWD for the past year and a half. I use a Tesla Connector with a Tesla Tap to charge. Initially, I had some issues with this where it would occasionally get a charge fault (once or twice a week). Tesla wanted a Tesla plugged in while it happened which was pretty much impossible. Never had an issue with the Ford Charger... after a few months the issue went away for about a year. Not sure if it was a Ford update or Tesla Firmware update so all was well. Fast forward, last night I plug in and 4 minutes later get another charge fault. Unplug the car, used the breaker switch to power off the unit for over an hour and tried again where it faulted again. I pulled out the Ford Charger and and it started charging (yea). I get in the car while it's charging saw the charge fault on the dash, right afterwards it flashed the "Stop Safely Now" sign. The car completed charging. This AM I went out and the car was not showing any issues. Tried to see if an OBD2 would show on codes, but apparently it only shows active faults. Car "seems" to be ok, but a bit nervous

I would be hesitant to drive it until you know what’s going on. What kind of OBD reader and app are you using? You would want to check the SOBDM module for codes. If the car drives I would back it into your parking spot and leave your window down in case the 12V battery dies and you have to have it towed.

Maybe send your VIN to me or DevSecOps and we can look.

If you’re on the recall list it may be an imminent contactor issue. I’m sure you can find all that information on this site. I wouldn’t do any race track moves at the light or drive up the hill in 100° temperatures right now. Maybe avoid DC charging. Nobody really seems to know what sets off the contactors.

Alright, Feb 11, 2021 build. Most recent powertrain software update was May 21st with Power-Up 2.7.2. Does not have current recall software.

The most significant code I see is:

SOBDM: P0D90 - Battery Charger Input Frequency Incorrect - Sets if frequency is less than 40 Hz or greater than 70 Hz more than 10 times during one charging cycle.

I don't see how the AC input frequency could be off unless you are using a generator or inverter (solar?) as the power source for the vehicle? If you are charging off the standard power grid and you got that code, you probably have an issue with the on-board charger in the vehicle (SOBDM). Or some kind of weird interference on your AC power?

Next you have BECM P1A1E:66 - Hybrid/EV Battery Contactor Control Signal: Signal Has Too Many Transitions/Events - This DTC sets when the BECM detects greater than 15 successful precharge events within a calibrated time.

This one is likely due to cycling the ignition or charging too many times in a short period. If you weren't turning the car on/off or plugging/unplugging, maybe it was the EVSE doing it because of bad firmware or overheating? Or could just be because of bad PCM software.

I believed BECM code from rapid cycling precharge set a "battery disabled" state and caused the stop safely now message. Turning the car off for 5 minutes likely reset it.

The good news is this doesn't look like contactor meltdown, but rather a charging issue. You should first try charging at a public L2 station and see if that works normally or not. If it does, there might be something wrong with the electrical service or EVSE at your house.

I would also recommend you go to your dealer and have the recall software installed as soon as you can. The P1A1E code does have a related TSB 21-2244 from Aug 2021 which calls for updating the powertrain software. I'm not sure if the 2.7.2 software you got includes this fix or not. Getting the recall done will accomplish the powertrain updates and kill two birds with one stone.

Thanks... Running a Tesla Wall Connector + Tesla Tap... (Standard Power Grid)
I "suspect" that may be the issue. I have never received a charge fault using the Ford Charger, so I suspect it's either an issue with the Tesla Unit or TeslaTap.

BECM P1A1E:66
I suspect this may be due to me sitting in the car playing the tiles game, and turning the car on and off while playing (usually the car times out, so I turn it on / off).

What gen wall connector (1, 2, 3), and would you know the firmware version?

You can press OK on the wheel when the shutdown alert comes up on the screen (after 30 mins) to stay on, or disable auto-off timer in settings (setting defaults back on after a restart). I would use one of those two options rather than manually turning it off and on.

Out of curiosity, what Tesla Tap model were you using? Was it an authentic Tesla Tap or one of the cheap knock offs on Amazon? I've heard some horror stories about the knock offs. Also what amperage does your Tesla Tap support?

Good morning. I'd like to look into your Mach-E's message on my end. Could you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer to get started?
