Are we talking about the hole in the rail? What about the dent and scratches to the left of the hole?

Follow up…according to local dealer, the damage is strictly cosmetic and the battery protector did its job ?

thanks for all the insightful replies.

That's great to hear and also happy you only hit a hail bail in the first place. Good luck on the ice, its a B.

Bringing back this old thread. Does anyone know what the part number is or where in the parts catalog these are listed? I didn't look under the car before we took delivery, and just found this on the left rail of our 25 GT. Happened before we took delivery, but we've had the car for over 3 weeks now. Just figure if It's not that pricey and easy to replace I just get a new one.

Same happened to my 24. Ford did nothing. Dealer did nothing. Both blamed it on me, washed their hands off and moved on. You should look carefully at the bottom and inspect as per the doc in post #2 of this thread. Looks cosmetic to me, btw and not fixable. This frame is what holds the entire battery. If you want to fix, you will need an entire battery frame.

That is called a battery protection rail, you can order just that part, but the rivets holding it in have to be drilled out and replaced. In order to do that, I think you have to drop the pack and remove all the cell modules first. So overall it would be like a $10k job.

Yeah, I had checked for fasteners and found it just 7 pop rivets. Seems like you could drill them out in place and install a new rail pretty easily, but who knows. Plus, I don't see just those rails listed in the parts catalog anywhere.

If anyone has the part number for the left rail by itself, I would certainly appreciate it.

Just an update. I found several paint chips on the lower drivers door trim panel adjacent to the rail damage as well after further close inspection. I contacted the Service Director at my selling dealer and sent him pictures of the damage. They are going to replace both the rail (Which IS available by itself!) and the door trim molding at no cost to me. The Service Director apologized for them missing the damage prior to delivering the vehicle to us 6/5. This Dealership is a stand up class act in every department. Sales Department kept every promise and didn't try to add on a single BS charge, and now the Service Department is winning us over as well. I'd buy from them again in a heart beat and highly recommend them to everyone. We drove 75 miles each way to them instead of going to either one of our crappy local dealers. Glad we did. Huge shout out to Price Ford in Turlock California!
