Twice in the last two months, I have taken my 2023 Mach-E to the dealer because of a backup sensor fault. Both times the dealership technician reported that the wires for the backup sensors had been chewed up by a rodent. They even sent me pictures of the damage. Both times it cost $500+ to get it repaired. The second time I boughr rodent tape from Honda and had the wires wrapped with it. Has anyone else experienced this and found a good solution?

While it is not 'green', back when I lived on acreage and had a couple tractors/beater pickup I gave up and haywired rodent bait in a couple places on each of those. They make blocks (or did) that have a hole in the block. The concerning environmental problem is secondary poisoning of birds and other predators.

Including neighborhood dogs and cats. We had a dog die from internal bleeding and organ failure. Most likely from getting into rodent poison (which we don't have), probably from eating a dead rodent.

Indeed, the risk is real. I have not seen studies, but can tell you I see bait stations throughout the city, and that many if not most farmers use them, some heavily. If diagnosed in time, multiple vitamin K injections are an effective treatment.

They tried the vitamin K injection.

Rodents chewing electrical wiring sheathing happens to other vehicles too. A friend's mid-90s Ford Explorer, another friend's 2020 Toyota Highlander (when it was new).

Fortunately comprehensive coverage usually covers this damage.

House insurance generally excludes rodent damage. I do not know about vehicle insurance.

My friends' vehicle comprehensive covered the repairs. On the new Highlander it was $4k+.

Couldn’t work out why the lasers on my wheel alignment equipment didn’t light up when examining a vehicle one day, it’s kept in same garage as Stangy and when I stripped it down found Micky Muse had got into the holes and chewed the wiring through?

Poured rodent poison into the wheel aligner frames and just hope ? the blighters don’t attack Stangy?????

Got a SSN warning and "Battery Depleted" warning, although the battery was at 75%, on my '21 Premium 4. Accessory power on but car otherwise inoperable. Thought it might be another HVBJB failure (which was replaced in January after car bricked). Turns out harness wiring chewed through, cutting power from the battery. Good news is relatively quick and easy (though not inexpensive) repair. Hope that is a one time misfortune.

@mattsaradan, there are a couple of threads on rodent damage in the car including one about how to make the access points relatively inaccessible for mice and rats. In the meantime, I use Granpa Gus’ pouches in the frunk and change them regularly. Some folks dangle one in a string from the beauty panels so they’re below the frunk as well.

Good luck.

Thanks @Kamuelaflyer - I saw that advice and ordered a set for the frunk!
