I've got some cats that hang out in and around our horse barn. They seem to control our rodents
Barn cats FTW. We have a bunch in the area behind our detached garage. No troubles with mice. Very rural part of Hawaii.

Did he run out when you put the repellant in there?
he ran down an opening by the passenger side hinge for the hood. Haven't seen it today and no other evidence of rodent activity. Car at dealership now for a some needed service and I asked them to check. Hopefully no nest in the car.

Buy a pack of 12 mouse traps and bait them with peanut butter. Put them in the area around the car.

Dryer sheets and peppermint oil are not effective deterrents. Mice will still nest nearby.

Using a lot of mouse traps is very cheap compared to the damage they cause.
I thought about the pb+mouse trap. Our issue is that we don't have a garage.. so car is parked outside. Don't want to attract more critters. Further.. our neighbours have several "outdoor" cats. Sometimes they even chill under the car. Either they slacked off or this mouse found refuge inside our Mach-E.

Weighted cover seal your car to the ground. There are no gap for them to get to your car

I had to look that up since I never heard of it before. https://www.getcoverseal.com/

In rural areas where one parks on grass I can't see how this will seal enough for rodents to not get under the weights.

Does anyone have experience using these on grass areas?

Half of our rodent problem at our place is ground squirrels and ground hogs. For an exterior-parked vehicle, these would be worse than useless, they would attract even more rodents.

NOT for outdoor use per the web site

  • Jackets are guaranteed for indoor use only
Also not realistically for a commuter car. Who would want to go through the process of unzipping, storing, extracting, setting up, zipping every day?

Cats are not an effective mouse deterrent unless you have several that are always roam the area, and they are hungry. If your house cat is fed well, they won't really go after mice (unless they want to play).

Ultrasonic repellers are not scientifically proven to be effective. They fail in controlled trials, and are often no better than doing nothing. I wouldn't waste any money on them.

If you want scientifically proven results, go with snap traps, bucket traps, electronic traps, or poison (but keep in mind poison travels up the food chain and affects other predators). Snap traps are the most effective and humane way to deal with the problem, short of keeping a clowder of wild cats around.

BTW, if you want to check out different methods, there is a YouTube channel called Mousetrap Monday. He's tested almost every single mouse trap or device you can think of, search away.

At the current place, we did for a couple of years. And despite the traps, we had damage to a gassy vehicle.

The number one solution to rodents in your vehicles is putting the vehicle in a garage.

My 2024 MME Premium ER RWD has sustained serious rodent damage twice in six months, costing me almost $2K.

I live in the country. I have an outside cat. I have placed boxes with poison bait near the car. I have put drier sheets and peppermint oil in the car.

Any suggestions?
What type of rodent? In the bush with fields here 100 acres of it. Put some bounce sheet in the frunk and the truck.

They chew when they nest. Start picking up the pine cones around the immediate area. Disrupt or ruin their environment in the close proximity so the do not nest there. In the bush they can find a better place to live if you make it difficult for them around the vehicle they should nest elsewhere. Found that out with pigeons in the barn. Also learned persistence from them in finally deterring them.

Have 23 pines and 4 spruce 30+ years old around the house and have seen both chipmucks and squirrels but no vehicles chewed to date touch wood. If they keep going back and forth from the vehicle you know you may have a problem and need to monitor closer.

Heard of chewed wires in a garage a number of times. Putting it in a garage you just switch from squirrels to mice. We get mice in the house every fall how they get in who knows. For them we break out the peanut butter.
