Res mice in the house. A good pest control person can bring that jaundiced eye to spot how rodents (and opossums, skunks, etc) get into the house or crawl space. Steel wool or 1/4 inch hardware cloth (actually zinced steel mesh) are good, cheap, and shapable barriers. Res bait. Put it in the car - frunk, glove box, etc. - death sentence only to invaders.

In my ICE car I sprinkle Cayenne pepper in the engine compartment. Works wonders in keeping them from making themselves at home.

My 2024 MME Premium ER RWD has sustained serious rodent damage twice in six months, costing me almost $2K.

I live in the country. I have an outside cat. I have placed boxes with poison bait near the car. I have put drier sheets and peppermint oil in the car.

Any suggestions?
Buy a Rid-a-Rat at your local Ace Hardware (Amazon?). We use them in Arizona to keep Pack Rats from getting into engines, and they work. It’s a small magnetic box with a flashing light powered by 2 AA batteries.
We also use them here at home in the engine compartment of our Ford Transit camper and they’ve kept rodents away.
