VPN and SYNC

Please note that with an iPhone that has VPN on, Sync will not connect. At first I thought it was Sync. So I reset everything, only to find out by chance that it did connect w/o VPN turned on the phone. This is not in the ford manual. So if you have a connection issue, consider this. It will only connect with VPN off.

I also found this to be true on Android. Like you - I tried many things and finally turned off VPN and it worked. Not sure why, but is seems VPN blocks connection to the vehicle. Hopefully someone out there can offer if there is a work around or why it is this way.

You will need to go into your VPN settings (if your chosen VPN has the option) and change it so that CarPlay / Android Auto don't go through the VPN.

Thanks so much. Never knew this. I adjusted the setting on express VPN and it work(it specifically mentions Apple car play)

anytime I am not on a trusted wifi (my house, my parent's house), I have VPN on my phone. Never had any issues.

I am not using PIA, Nord or anything else though... I am using WireGuard that connects to my home network. So, anytime I am not home, all my traffic is routed via my home network.
