Shouldn't Ford be doing some serious talking with the IRS after posting this today on the Ford Media page?

Koa wood floors are always popular out here. The problem is that Koa is a stunningly expensive wood. No, no matter what price you're thinking-- more expensive than that even. So a lot of places sell Tigerwood flooring as "Brazilian Koa." It does look a lot like koa but it's not. There is no such thing as Brazilian Koa. Koa is endemic to Hawaii. The fact that some dealers call it Koa does not make it so. Same with Ford and its SUV tag for the MME. Whether we like it or not (and I don't).

All good points, but does anyone know where the regulations or laws are that allow the IRS to determine the designation of a vehicle?

Apparently the people that conceived, designed, and manufactured the vehicle don't get to designate what the vehicle is.

The one that makes the rules relating to tax credits is the correct one. It really doesn't matter at all what the EPA calls it any more than it matters if the FBI considers it an SUV or what your local state considers it for state tax credits.

Ford will likely fight to have it changed, and they have better odds of getting it done than any of us since they have to be aware of how the 55k limit will impact them on a car that as of '23 doesn't have a lot of variants that fall into the $55k and under range.
