I swear the front glass has got to be made out of eggshells. I was in my car driving with my family and I swatted at a bug that was flying in my car. I smacked it against the front windshield and it cracked! I had no rings on, nothing in my hand, just the back of my hand against the glass. The stupid bug even lived! That level of impact in NO WAY should have caused the glass to break. If the glass can break that easily, I consider it as unsafe and faulty for all intents and purposes. That or I need to sign up for the UFC. Has anyone else had similar experiences, and would this be covered under the vehicle warranty or am I going to have to go through insurance?

I got two rock chips on the windshield in the first year of ownership. Hard to measure the size/speed of the rock other than by impact sound, but they didn't seem like huge impacts.
I've never heard of someone cracking the windshield from the inside using their hand....
Can you attach a pic of what it looked like right *after* you hit it with your hand? Perhaps there was already a small chip in the area you hit and that cause it to expand rapidly?

Didn't Murano show it was made of sugar glass? Hence how it's better at absorbing sounds and rocks.

I saw a fly in my car today. This post makes me feels so lucky that I did not smak it against the windshield or the dashboard. No cracks inside the interior from today drive.

Same for me. I think I am at 5-6 large chips in a little over a year. They annoy me when I clean the windshield and see them all.

Anyone recommend any products for sealing?

Some insurers may provide coverage for chip repair at no additional cost beyond what you pay in premiums. I’ve had insurance that did so. It’s been a while and I don’t know where insurers stand on this now. I think the insurer theory is the it would rather front a minor chip fix cost as a hedge against a more significant future claim if the chip morphs into a crack necessitating windshield replacement.

The local auto parts store probably has a UV epoxy with a syringe that will pull a vacuum and set the epoxy. You scrape the remainder off with a new razor blade. I typically prefer to do this same-day before the crack gets an idea to spread. You can go the professional route, Safelite has a thing and I am sure others do as well.

I repaired a crater in my windshield with RainX repair kit. Almost invisible repair.
