I may get a NoCo with its override button, or not. Even with one, as so many others have noted, it begs the question of where to keep it.
I actually keep my NOCO in a toolbox in the Frunk. Why? So I can jump other cars.
Can the hood be opened from a small 9V (or any other) battery, like in this video for M3?
[In Granpa Simpson’s voice]
Back in the day, a bunch of us tried this with 9v batteries and a bunch of other things (as cells in series etc). None of those worked.
So dead 12V battery in Mach-E is so dead that the jumper can't detect it? Ouch.
Put the jumper in override right off the bat?
I would call Ford Roadside Assistance.
Best answer. Or AAA, depending upon who has the least lengthy delays. :)

All of this. I keep one in the frunk to be able to offer assistance if needed, and I keep one in the garage in an easy-to-find place in the event I need to call my wife and have her deliver it to me somewhere because I can't get into my vehicle.

Good idea on the jump pack carry. I think I’ll toss in the regular jumper cables too. It could help someone else. I have another jump pack I carried around in an ICE car. It has no override but could be useful to charge a phone or other items.

Also good suggestions on Ford and AAA roadside assistance. Another thing to check and keep in mind is whether your auto insurance policy includes roadside assistance. Mine does, I don’t know if all do or if it’s an optional add on.

Storing it in the vehicle only does you good if the 12V battery died with the doors unlocked. If the doors are locked when it died, then you're going to have to make a phone call (unless you have a string backup).
I think even unlocked doors require 12v power to open, right?

Unless the doors are literally open (or a window is open far enough to reach inside and manually open a door) you need the exterior door opening buttons to have 12v power to open the doors. Right?

The doors store some power in super capacitors so that they can be opened in the event of a dead 12V battery. But only if they're unlocked.

I’m confused. Why is this even necessary? I thought the days of surprise flat 12v battery are consigned to the past! Are you telling me that dead batteries, early and without warning, are a common issue?

I wouldn’t say it’s been common, but it’s becoming a common issue now that the batteries are getting to an age where they’re no longer serviceable for the 2021s. The main issue once the battery no longer holds a charge is that there is no mechanical entry into the car - it’s all electrical/electronic. That leaves us locked out unless we can power the electric frunk release and then power the 12V system *or* break a window to get in. ??

I’ll add to the issue list

1. They’re failing without any warning whatsoever.
2. They’re failing at 30-40 months, which is extremely short under normal driving conditions.

Just think how much less an issue this would be if Ford had just put conventional door handles and a good old fashioned lock cylinder trunk release on the frunk. Sometimes I wonder if Ford’s engineers are a little too innovative (?) for their (actually our) own good.

Point 2 (for me) is alarming. Whomever is supplying Ford with 12V batteries is doing it on the super-cheap. My T/A has a 22 year old Optima red in it that still cranks the big Pontiac over like it doesn’t have spark plugs. While my Blazer has an itsy -bitsy little engine in it, the over 10 year old Optima yellow still cranks it like nobody’s business. ?‍♂?

No.

Generaltso,
Can you recommend a jump starter that has this feature? I’ve never seen one. Thanks

It will only work if the jump starter has a mode that allows you to override the safety function that checks for the presence of 12V before supplying power. I can’t tell if that one does, but I don’t see a button for it.

Too bad Optima doesn’t make a battery in our size, per their website. Have you ever looked at their custom fitment and figured if one of their batteries could fit the MME?

I looked a couple of years ago and they didn't have a physical fit. Capacity and voltage-wise, nothing was close enough for the BMS to view as a correct battery. Not sure about now, but unlikely they've changed anything since then. ?‍♂?
