Nema 14-50 or 6-50 plug. Don't understand why $300 price difference. I do apologize if this is a question already asked, I did do a search. I can understand if u already have a house hardwired and u have to go that route, but I'm starting fresh. Car scheduled for production 4/4?. So excited. Long time Ford owner, 1st pony. White ice, ER, RWD. Texas.

They will both work, but nema 14-50 is more common and thus more versatile. I believe the 14 has a ground wire where the 6 does not.

You want to get a plug that matches your vehicle's charger that comes in the trunk... 14-50.

I definitely agree with this suggestion. Might as well have the electrician (or yourself if qualified) install one circuit that can be used by both your wall unit and the mobile unit. By the way, the ChargePoint Home Flex should be the same price for either option. And both can be hardwired if you chose to go that route for the extra amps.

I found out the difference from my electrician. He said the 6-50 is weatherproof. So getting the 14-50 as it's going in the garage.?

Either the 6-50 or the 14-50 can be put into a weatherproof box. The difference between the two is the 14-50 includes a neutral wire, which is not used by most EVSEs. If you are installing a new circuit, go with a 14-50 simply because there are more EVSE models using it right now. It gives you more flexibility to buy another EVSE should yours fail. ??‍♂?

Nema 14-50 or 6-50 plug. Don't understand why $300 price difference.
There is no reason there should be a price difference aside from seller price gouging. Supply and demand is out of whack on chargers right now, like everything else, and stock on ChargePoints goes in and out at Amazon / Home Depot / etc, and if you're trying to buy one from a 3rd party seller the price gets jacked up. If you can't find the one you want at list price order it straight from ChargePoint and hopefully they get it to you before your car shows up. If you need it NOW you're possibly SOL and will have to pay more.

I just hardwired one of these last week and bought the 6-50 because it was in-stock and I didn't care what plug it had since I was removing it anyways for hardwire. About 30 minutes after I ordered mine Amazon ran out of stock and the price went up from $700 to $1k when it switched to a 3rd party seller.

As for 14-50 vs 6-50 the difference is your home wiring. 14-50 has a neutral wire, so 4 wires total. For a fresh install this means paying extra for that 4th wire, but it's more future-proof because that's the way things are going. The ChargePoint itself is a 3 wire setup for either plug or hardwire, which is why I say the difference is the home wiring since the ChargePoint doesn't care.

Where are you seeing the price difference? Charge Point lists both for $700...

On Amazon. Periodically one or both of them go out of stock at Amazon, and price gougers go to the top of the list. If you check frequently, you will be able to buy the version you want at list price. The real price is always $699, unless you're an ADM enthusiast.

Yup, just checked Amazon and both options are marked up. Ordering from ChargePoint you can avoid that, and they indicate 2-3 weeks, so I guess it depends on how much that time is worth.
