Why did I get pulled over?

I got pulled over yesterday for turning left onto a street that had a no left turn sign. He was nice enough and told me they were just letting folks know about the "no left turn sign" and, oh, nice car by the way, haven't seen one of these before. So the real question is did I get pulled over because I turned left or because he wanted to check out the car? It's all good, but I'm curious if anyone else had anything similar happen....

Probably a revenue generator for the township. Where I live one of the 2 main thoroughfares got designated as a "safe corridor" a few years ago - which means traffic fines are doubled. Cops constantly hang out in the area where it drops from 55 to 50 for no apparent reason. Well, except for revenue generation in the township.

I’ve seen no left signs at the coast where it gets busy by the pier. It’s actually a lit up sign. Don’t do it when it’s lit up. Dark is fine to turn. It’s so you don’t hold up the traffic behind you while you wait trying to turn into a usually busy street that’s already backed up.

I think your MME just saved you a ticket. You broke the law -all though a small law. And the officer did not give you a ticket. Just a verbal warning. I think he liked the car and let you off because of the MME.

There’s lots of no left turn signs here in MI. It’s the Michigan left intersections. You have to turn right to go left.

There’s lots of no left turn signs here in MI. It’s the Michigan left intersections. You have to turn right to go left.

We can turn left from a stop sign whenever safe to do so (unless a one-way of course). If a traffic light then we must wait for it to turn green.

We have a street with a no left turn during the hours of 8AM - 8PM. Street runs uphill in front of a old church.

In my town there is a “No Left Turn 4-7pm” intersection. I still see people lined up trying to turn there. ??

Interesting tidbit: The second time I got pulled over for the front license plate wrap I had just passed a bunch of those morons trying to turn left at 4:15pm. ??

Now that you mention it, Phoenix and Tucson have suicide lanes where it is illegal to make a left turn during rush hour. Tucson might have stopped that but I think Phoenix is still gambling with theirs.

So we DO have those areas too. I guess I need to get out more.

Yes, and folks still attempt to turn left there during rush hour. When I first moved here, I had a thought in the back of my head that this started as a way to control population of idiots.

Left turns on the wrong road or at the wrong time can be dangerous or just a huge impediment to the flow of traffic. So no left turn signs are a thing I’ve seen. Maybe the sign is fairly new and the police are truly not ticketing during a certain public education period.
I was pulled over last year when I didn’t slow soon enough for a newer speed zone. Officer was just pointing out to me that the limit had changed recently and I needed to be more aware. Sometimes it’s for public education.

As a young police officer I was occasionally tempted to compliment a stopped violator on his nice car.

I quickly learned that this would most often result in the violator accusing me of making the stop as an excuse for checking out the car.
