I don't think it's going to happen any time soon. Not only because the batteries degrade when high current pumped through them, but also because of the power required. If we want to charge a 100kWh battery in 5 minutes, the power will be required 1.2MW from every plug. An average 1GW nuclear power plant will be able to charge only 800 cars at a time, likely less due to losses. You will need nuclear power plants all over the place.But I also think that eventually charging technology will catch up to the point that it won't take more than a few minutes to charge and go, much like gasoline fillups now.
Also taking into account that about 10% goes to heat during charging you will have about 120kW heat that needs to be dissipated, not counting the need for very thick cables and cooling, which might not be practical.
That's by the way another reason why battery electric Semis are not viable.
