Modern EVs/Hybrids shouldn't have a problem with short commutes. DC DC in the MME is 150A. Many alternators aren't even that much. It can charge the 12v up just fine. All of the Ford hybrids at least (plug In or regular) charge the 12v off of the DC DC not the engine. Engine is HV output only. No alternator.

... I wasn't aware that plug-in hybrids are having 12v battery problems when they are driven mainly on short commutes since the battery does not get charged.
Three short drives (8 miles x 2, then 7 miles) yesterday showing the battery being charged (albeit not at 150A). Voltage top, 12V LVB soc bottom. It was a chilly 16F.

It is a problem for all plug in vehicles. Across the board. I don't know of any brand that isn't having some sort of issue. Browse any forum for any plug in and you will find LVB woes. Some more than others.
