Windshield (Coating?) & Mounted Electronics... Can anyone confirm?

I have seen others make note of issues relating to windshield mounted electronics (Radar Detector / Dragy / TollPass /Auto Gate Opener/etc). Since i'm encountering much of the same obstacles, hoped someone might at least confirm what's unique with our windshields (Aside from flying off ) to understand what solutions might exist...

* I know the pano roof has an IR coating, but thought it was confirmed the windshield did not?

* If there is a coating, are there designated areas w/o it? I know years back there were specified areas on MB's that were coating free to use devices there... i.e. Beside mirror and lower center of dash ( see below for example )

*Or is it possible the issue is more interference related to the cars numerous collision sensors, lidar, etc?


Please humor me on the need for these devices, but I use a Dragy & Escort Radar detector in all my cars/trucks without issue... But both are semi useless in the ME so far ?

Select trim does not have IR coating windshield, higher trims do. Black dotted area near the rearview mirror does not have the IR coating on any trim level.

Thanks for the info & links @hybrid2bev, not sure how I missed the EZ pass thread... Looking more like the GTs do have this coating then.

Currently, I have my Dragy mounted in that black dot matrix area (the only place it works, but still not as it should). Hoped there were more unobstructed areas for us to work with, plus tucking a radar up there might be a bit of a challenge :/

So it sounds like the GTs may infact have the IR windshield then?

Looks like any vehicle with the Panoramic Fixed-Glass Roof gets the Infrared Reflective (IRR) windshield.
