Wow...didn't think that reply would get any attention.

Not sure I follow. I just gave the meaning of my username. Wasn't that the assignment?
It took me 5 sec to know where you live and what your phone number is. I’m asking you to remove this info for your own safety. Providing too much info online puts you at risk.

Uhhh ok...that's kind of weird and creepy that you would take the time to find out where I live and my phone number by a post on a Ford MachE forum. Think I'll find somewhere else to spend my time.

Residue from long-ago naval service.
On P-3s ("legacy" USN maritime patrol aircraft), "condition 5" was set for take-off/landing. "Set 5" also became a synonym for "sit down, be quiet"....
Hey Condition5. VP-31 here, NAS Moffett Field in the 70's. Nice to have you aboard.

VP-31?
Wasn't that the RAG?
I got to fly out of Moffet, when we brought a plane from Hawaii.

Between that experience and a high school job at NAS Lakehurst...I got to schlep through some pretty awesome blimp hangars.

Otherwise:
VQ-1
VPU-2
VQ-2
with some non-flying gigs mixed in.
Max per diem and literally saw the world.

Yes, VP 31 was the RAG. I transferred from there to VAQ130 up at Whidbey Island and deployed with the independence. I went to A school at Lakehurst, PR – A schoo. I was a ground pounder and got out as a PR2 after my four year stent, but I did make a few gedunk runs with VP31. They would fly from Moffett to Brunswick and drop me off at Plattsburg AFB in New York and pick me up on the way back, it was a pretty good gig for a young enlisted kid. I also got to fly to NAS barbers point on a weekend run. Lots of good memories.

LoL. My high school summer experience at Lakehurst probably was a contributor to my decision to join the navy (that, and flunking out of college...but that's another story).

I worked with both ABHs and AGs during the summer (guys who were stashed in "special services division" while awaiting orders/discharge. Good dudes. Asked for ABH when I jointed. Not qualified for vision. Ended up as a CTI and a DLI.

I'm a DLI grad too! Class of 1997 Japanese Basic Course (I graduated 3-3-3 exceeding requirements for the Intermediate Course because I had a Japanese girlfriend to "study" with for most of that year!)

"We learn Japanese so you don't have to" didn't go as hard as say, "Russian" back in the day ;-)

I didn't finish college until after getting out of the Army - I was one of the dozen or so lower enlisted that used to get Japanese training per year back then. The rest were generally Navy FAOs at the time. My little class of four students were outnumbered by the number of teachers that cycled through the classroom in a day ;-)
