Last week I got my free adaptor from Ford and I feel like sharing my first experience using it. This was just a test run using the adaptor at a local Tesla station. Plug and Charge worked perfectly and it billed my account accurately. Overall it was a great experience but I have to admit I was only on the charger for 5 minutes. Afterall this was just a trial run.

I did get some pursed lips from the Tesla owners who were also charging. I tried to be friendly by head nodding and waving but they seemed uninterested even though the location I charged at was not very busy and I did not need to take up two spaces.

Anyway, I'm really excited about this and was really happy my first experience went exceedingly well. I can't wait to see what kind of travel opportunities this opens up.

Now onto the pics!

As you can see it wasn't perfect but I didn't block traffic even though I stuck out a little bit.

Adaptor worked great on the first try and didn't stick like some other have been reported to.

I know this isn't really accurate. I wish Ford showed this info in the vehicle not just the App.

Here is the receipt I got via email shortly after the session was ended.

This evening went to the Tesla Super Charging Station in Tukwila Washington. Was not full but I wanted to be as courteous as possible I aligned my MME and noticed I had to even get closer. A man from two cars over yelled you do not belong here. This is for Tesla only. I said I have an adapter and need to change. He walked over pointed at the station said it says Tesla! You go to your own down by Target. Obviously he was disturbed and did not want to get in an argument. Currently happily charging at EA. I’m sure this is rare but did make me feel uncomfortable

I just got done with a long road trip (~4800 miles) where I had a total of 47 charging sessions: 6 at Electrify America and 41 at Tesla Superchargers. I have to admit I was a little worried about Tesla car owners not being happy with me charging at the Tesla Superchargers, especially after I saw the signs that read "Tesla Vehicle Charging Only" but in the end I never had anyone say a peep to me and I never saw anyone give me dirty looks. I certainly saw some Tesla drivers/passengers curious about my using the Superchargers.

Because of those signs I had come up with a statement I was prepared to use if anyone thought those signs meant I wasn't allowed to be there, but I never had to use my statement, which is as follows:

"The 'Tesla' used on the sign is referring to the company and Tesla, the company, as well as Elon Musk himself has approved of Ford and Rivian vehicles charging at Tesla Superchargers. In fact Ford and Rivian vehicles are not approved at all Superchargers and Tesla prevents Ford and Rivian vehicles from using Superchargers that are not approved for their use. So by the mere fact that charging is working on my Mach-E at this charger means that I am approved to use it. If you have a problem with that then please take it up with Tesla."

It would be best if those signs were either not there or had slightly better wording.

You probably won't get a chance to say all that.
How about:
"Tesla recently opened up parts of their charger network to more vehicles, sorry you didn't know"

My experience on my recent trip to Orlando, was that the other people (Teslas) at the supercharger were super-nice. They asked me about the Mustang Mach-E and were genuinely interested. Of course there were some people who just sat in their cars and charged, but overall, if they were out of their cars, they were pleasant.

Yes, the sign says “Tesla” because it is the brand of the charging station, just like Electrify America, EVgo, etc. Since Tesla approved Ford and Rivian at many SuperCharger stations, charging here is perfectly acceptable according to Tesla Corporate. ??

Although, I would be uncomfortable too. I am a small canine. ??

Each time I've been to a Tesla station I haven't gotten any comments or strange looks. Each time someone would glance over as I pulled into a spot and then they'd go right back to what they were doing. Most of them don't really care.

I would have said, "Maybe you should call the police." and charged my car.

It’s always nice when you’re in a state that has an open carry gun law?‍↔ just do like all those people do at Walmart and wear it on your side people try to walk away from you?

This is also my planned automatic response if I'm ever challenged.

Although as with everyone else I find people completely ignore you or are nice and chatty.

I don't support open carry in any way, shape or form, but I understand the sentiment.

Someone once threatened me with their open carry sidearm, and my Navy special ops training kicked in and I told them I might be old, but they better not miss with their first shot or they'd find that gun up their a... backside. They walked away.

I understand that I don’t carry at all I find it’s more of a problem than a solution. And I can relate to the not so much special ops, but I’ve done some things in the Navy for my 20 years that keep me sharp. Let’s just put it that way.

The worst I got on my cross-country trip was a couple Tesla drivers watching with smirks on waiting for me to realize I couldn't charge there. For shits and giggles I kept the adapter out of sight and plugged in and saw their "surprised pikachu" faces when they saw that it was working.

The only actual comment I got was when I was sitting charging with my window down and a confused Tesla owner asked if I had a body kit or something on my Model 3.

I only stopped at one Supercharger on my Idaho road trip and there was nobody else there for me to smugly wave at.
