Ford Mustang Mach-E GT: 1st impression
A test drive in the back seat
Mattijn Nederend 24/09/20 - 20:04

We are all very curious about how the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT drives. Unfortunately, we still have to make do with Ford 's promise that everything is in order. At the brand's Go Electric Event in Rotterdam, we took a seat in the backseat of the fastest version of the Ford Mustang Mach-E for a tour of the city. No, we were not allowed to sit in the front due to the corona virus and the five feet. This is what struck us as rear passengers about Ford's new electric SUV.

WHERE ARE THE DOOR HANDLES?
The doors of the Ford Mustang Mach-E open with a normal key, but you can also open them via an app. And if your phone is empty? Then there is a combination lock on the driver's door. You open the door by pressing a round button, then you can open the door with a fixed handle. The rear doors don't even have a lever, just a button. When you press that, the door will pop open an inch so that you can pull it open at the edge. There is also a special catch on the inside. Handy (but not necessarily new) is that you can also open the front trunk remotely via the app. For example, a delivery person can place a package there, without having access to the entire car.

COULD YOU SIT IN THE BACK A BIT?
Yes of course. We were behind a driver of less than 1.70 meters, so we were 1.92 meters royally with us. We bet that we could have been behind ourselves without too much trouble. There is plenty of headroom. The bank is also fine and as far as we experienced that in the back, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has reasonably firm suspension but not uncomfortable. Do ask the driver to go over short thresholds. The whisper mode is nice for long journeys. Then the Mustang turns off all sounds, the throttle and brake response is reduced and the mood lighting switches to a soft color. That way you should be lulled to sleep.

AND FURTHER?
Ford rented a parking garage to demonstrate the sprint from 0 to 80 km / h in the bottom floor. We can in any case report that the car has enough to win the average sprint at the traffic light. The GT's 0-100 time would be 3.7 seconds. We also had a good view of the enormous 15.5-inch screen on the dashboard. Great is that there is a physical dial for the volume, but that the inside of the dial is a screen. Cars with real volume controls always have an advantage. We are curious about how it drives.

WHEN WILL THE FORD MUSTANG MACH-E GT COME TO THE NETHERLANDS?
It would normally arrive next month, but the factory in Mexico had to be locked for a while. The schedule is now February 2021 for the first copies. You have to join the queue at the back, because the counter in the Netherlands is already at 2,000 orders. The price of the fast Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is not known, but it is certain that it will cost more than 70,000 euros. The slower Mach-E is available from just over 58,000 euros.

First copies of the GT will be February 2021, eh? Interesting....
Yeah, they missed on that one a little. Someone mixed the section header and text a bit. It's definitely the Mach E, not the GT they are talking about in that paragraph, such as 2,000 already ordered.

I think it's the classic ask one question and get a different answer... Obviously that is First edition... GT is never mention in the answer except as price not known.

Interestingly, I had to translate it from Dutch first.
Did you do that by hand or by using Google Translate or whatsoever?

i do see a lot of misses in the Dutch text also, like the pricing
RWD SR = 49,925 + options
RWD EX = 58,075 + options
AWD SR = 56,165 + options
AWD EX = 67,140 + options
First Edition = around 71,000

Google, for sure. Zero chance I could have translated that by hand. ?

The link I put in underneath it has the original Dutch.

My biggest concern for now is the range of course but also the door handles! Imagine an icing rain of 1/8" or 1/4", how to do to open the door? Broke the ice all around the door to get it pop up? I don't have a garage so it is something to fix for me.

For now I am assuming the door opening is powerful enough to break most ice. They were designed to according to Ford, and until I hear reports otherwise going to assume it's true. If that's not good enough (maybe worse day or two of the year if ever), have the car defrost itself first from the phone app.

Every piece of info I've read from Ford on that says not to worry, that the actuators are quite strong and designed to pop the door open even if iced up.

Of course, everything has it limits. ?

Earlier interviews closer to reveal stated it was. They have test chambers too.

wait, car manufacturers test things before shipping, rather than shipping them to us and just hoping OTA can fix it all later? surely, you jest!
