Here we go.

Lugs: 21mm
Torque: 150 ft lbs
Recommended tools: 3+ ton jack, TMB 2" Jack pads, Torque Wrench, Impact, Socket Wrench, 21mm Socket (recommend 6 point, deep socket)

Jack up at the appropriate jack point:

Remove wheels using 21mm socket.

Cover is best removed from the back. Each fin of the aero cover has 3 plastic clips. DO NOT USE TOOLS. Likely to break or damage the finish of the wheel. Take your thumbs on the side clips and gently push each one in to pop the fins loose. Then the whole cover just pops off from center cap.

With cover, for comparison

Center bore size: 63.4mm

The issue with the Center cap will be there needs to be 5 or so MM more depth to the cap than conventional as the Axle pushes out past the wheel. The hub also pushes further into the wheel than conventionally so the ID of the center cap may need to be specific to this wheel. Going to be tough to find a compatible match.

So what do you think?

Do they look better without the Covers?

From the picture it looks like the area between the petals is not completely open but tapers down?

I'm of two minds about it.

It looks more....conventional not having the aero covers but you're right, the space for the cover is tighter and doesn't quite open up as much as I would have expected.

I regret I didn't walk up to get a closer picture of the wheel without the aero on but until I get center caps that work, I'm keeping the covers on so I'm back to cover on that wheel.

I looked at your original pic and can see now that the front wheel had the aero cover off but it's so subtle I didn't notice. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think it really makes a difference either way.

I'll be taking more/better shots here in a bit to better visualized and consolidate into the original post.

Edit: Done

Way to go Scoob. So many people carping about not seeing an aero cover removal, but nobody’s done it and posted about it until now. Thanks man (even though my GT doesn’t come with aero covers).

I think in addition to the center cap, you'll need to find some black powdercoated lug nuts. They're weirdly glaring when the aeros aren't on. It's subtle, but I like seeing the rotors and calipers through the rims like that

I thought for sure when I first ordered the GT many months ago that I'd be taking the covers off. After seeing the wheels on actual cars (as in, not the mock-ups) I like them more and more, the proportions look off in the mock-ups but great in real life. All of that being said, the difference with them off is so subtle, I think I'll just leave mine on, especially having a darker colored paint choice on the body.

yeah, I probably agree. leaving them on. they could have designed them as optional, but the look has grown on me. I still prefer the GTPE wheels, but the cleaning of all those little spokes... I'm too ocd...

The issue with these is the piano black plastic aero cover will get swirled the first time you take a brush to your wheels. I'm going to polish them and apply some ceramic hoping to prevent some of that but it's probably inevitable.

Yeah, keeping my covers on for sure. Especially with the center cap situation still unsolved. Great to know it can be done easily through. I really like the look of the covers even more since having the car than when I didn't. And I liked them then as well. PE wheels subjectively looks better, but these have their own charm.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I was also thinking about removing the covers when my car comes in, but I'm not so sure now. To me it looks a bit too busy without the covers, I kind of like the simple clean look with the covers on. Before I decided to go with the GT base I considered the GTPE but the wheels are a little busy for my taste so I figured why spend the extra money if I end up changing the wheels out anyway.

Thanks for the photos! I've gotten more used to the covers, from a distance I don't notice them at all really, but thinking when I get new tires down the road I'll give this a shot (especially given the center caps, maybe could 3d print an adapter...)

You're awesome!! Thank you!! Too bad doesn't seem to be an easy solution for the center cap.
I think it looks much better, just being able to see a little more of the red brake rotor makes a big difference!!
