Ford Mustang Mach-E Monitoring Battery Regen and Temperature Overheating in Mach-E Car Scanner Gauges.JPG

To satisfy any over-heating anxiety, I use Car Scanner on my A.I. Box to monitor regen and temp until Ford provides this info on the MME. {I've been asked on the Norway MME overheating thread to add this below.}

This car data can be obtained by using Car Scanner (or similar) and for much less cost with a WiFi or Bluetooth OBD2 adaptor and just your phone/tablet for read-out.

I got almost all my info on this from reading this forum thread:
Any OBD-II app that works yet? | Ford Mustang Mach-E Forum - MachEforum.com

For my particular install:

(1) I have the hotspot enabled in my MME.

(2) I purchased this A.I. Box (ran the usb cable from front port to unit in glovebox)....
NEW Wireless Apple CarPlay AI Box 4GB+32GB, Universal Car Android 9.0 System Multimedia Player Box, Mirror Link, Plug and Games| Car Multimedia Player| - AliExpress

(BTW, I have a lifetime subscription to Sirius/XM since Stern left terrestrial. I use this Carplay box to stream the radio app which nets-out to costing me almost nothing for the hotspot annually.)

It would be great if Ford made a way to view these critical details directly through the driver display. It’s just one of those things, people can see something growing as a problem (e.g. temps rising too much when you’re say only 20% down a mountain) and take action before it becomes a problem, in a way a computer or a sensor cannot.

And these vehicles are still very new. Someday, these Mach-Es will be 10, 15, or more years old, and I would expect issues like this to start popping up more not due to a fault but just age and wear and tear. Being able to see critical metrics like this will help people manage these things and keep their vehicles running.

Need to go out but will dive in later. Can you get the front and rear motor temps up on screen? Replace the inside temp and speed. What is available for display with your setup?

I don't see that availability. There are coolant temps available, but I find them to mirror battery temp. Anyway you can read the OBD-II thread I listed for more info.

That data is likely useless unless you can get it to show internal motor or electronics temperatures. The car may or may not have temp sensors in these areas.

I'm betting those sensors are soldered right onto to one of the circuit boards - and unobtainable by mere mortals.

So much for anxiety reduction! :(

I have the carplay AI box. Couple of questions:

1) Can you listen to bluetooth music on a separate device while viewing this app on the carplay box?

2) Does this show live when you use regen braking does it show on the app? Similar to like an RPM gauge?

Getting the info to display on the screen would be nice, but not $250 AI box nice. I'm fine with it just displaying on the cell phone if needed. As I understand it, that's what normally happens if you just get the reader and the phone app, right?

Looks like that reader ties up your data signal so you can't use the phone for things like Android Auto (at least according to the Amazon link). Not a huge deal though, as I have an old unused phone I can use. Sounds like the reader broadcasts a wifi node, and any phone/tablet can connect to it, right?

Lots of notes on Amazon about not leaving the reader plugged in all the time, or while driving. Is that really a problem? One warning said it'll drain the battery when the car is off. The other warning made the "don't use while driving" sound like it was just a general distracted driving issue rather than a "won't work" issue. Is that correct?

And it is actually showing live data? One comment said it can take up to 15 minutes to get a reading?

I've had this continuously connected for couple months with no conspicuous battery drain or other issues.

@SteveJo, how long does that box take to boot and connect once you've powered the car on?

I tried pairing my MMB to an ELM375 BT OBD adapter and the MMB locked up every time I tried it. I will try a VeePeek. I am sure there are other EV apps that use an Adapter you can see the data for as well. Thanks for the post. The MMB Airplay rocks.

as a comment to the question above. I listen To Spotify through the MMB on an App or a USB drive with tunes on it, plugged into the MMB USB input. I have not installed the SXM app to see if that works, it I assume it does . So far you cannot listen to a Ford Mach E source.
