Per Darren Palmer on the InsideEVs Podcast, changes are coming to the Mach-E's charging.

DC fast charging will have the 80% cliff moved higher and the speeds will increase.

Darren says the fast charging increases may be dynamic and depend on current environmental conditions and the long term battery health. So someone who rarely DC fast charges and always keeps their car at 80% may have a superior fast charge experience.

When/where did he claim this? Your embedded video didn't load when I first opened the page, sorry.

Great news for sure if true.

That being said, I didn't have any issues on my roadtrip with the current "curve", was always to 80% before I was even done eating/bathroom/etc. Of course faster/better charging is always appreciated. Guessing they have enough customer charging data to work on it.

Darren says they're always monitoring the forum and even pointed to this post!
HAH - Just watched and saw him call out your post. Great that he's that involved. Even more proof there's some high up lurkers in here.

Overall impressed with this livestream and talk with Darren.

This is great, but will be even better when these OTA updates start to roll-out. Difficult not to feel frustrated with the shoddy iOS app, PAAK issues, and lack of updates from Ford, while at the same time they talk up how great future features will be. Hoping the folks working on these features feel just as excited. ?

he talked about a cloud-based system that estimates trip distance based on elevation, weather, etc. that is the first i've heard of that, but great to know that it exists! hopefully they can make it a bit more customer facing in the future for us w/ an MME

DC fast charging to 90% would be nice! Especially for people living in a city with no home charging!

man - i just finished listening to Darren. that made me feel so much better for some reason. of course, he may have a bit of the whole sales/marketing going on during talks like this. however just hearing the understood potential, what they're focusing on, understanding and gathering data on straight from the horses mouth makes me excited.

He also said that they might increase the usable percentage of the battery (reduce the buffer) if and when they can trust that owners won't charge their battery to 100% every day. Not sure how they'll ever be able to have trust in that.

That's good to hear. Ford does seem to be overly protective of the battery, which may be a good thing. I guess they've collected enough data by now to lessen the restriction a bit.

I just came back from first time DC fast charging at Electrify America. Worked beautifully. Plugged in at 34% and starting charging at 115kW. Took 25 minutes to reach 80% and then dropped to 8kW. Within a few minutes got an email from Ford about the charging session. Took the 33kWh from my 250kWh balance.

There was a Taycan next to me and it was going at 34kW at 94%.

I actually like the locked away hidden buffer.
