Acceleration not as speedy in 2025 Premium (vs. 2021 First Edition AWD ER)?

I previously owned a 2021 First Edition with AWD and extended battery. The acceleration was impressive, almost like a little rocket launch when testing the limits (I usually drove in the mid-performance mode). My new 2025 Premium feels more like a regular car when accelerating. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it all in my head? The speed factor does get me thinking about how dangerous driving would be if everyone had fast electric vehicles like the MME, especially teens (unless you could set limits), but one of the things I loved about my 2021 was the exciting driving experience and I miss it.

Is your new one an extended range? The 2025 is faster on paper. Maybe the 2021 had a bit more punch off the line that you would feel? Maybe the 2025 eases in a bit more, so doesnt feel as fast but is faster? Virtually every other EV I have driven seems to hold back a bit at launch.

Also did you swap the 2021 for the 2025 and drive them close to each other? When I sold my first Bolt it was a year before I got the Mach-e. In my mind the Bolt almost felt faster, but when I picked up my current Bolt I realized that was all in my head, remembering it faster than it was.

I kind of got used to how my 2021 GT-PE accelerated. The 2024 feels quick but no longer has that effect on me. 🤷‍♂️🐩

As @MacherAWD asked, does your new car have the extended battery? Is it AWD? Both will affect how the car accelerates. 🤔🐩

If it’s the 2025 premium AWD extended range it’s definitely faster than your 2021.

0-60 in 4.1 vs 4.8 for the 2021. You should feel that.

Are you comparing both cars when you floor it or are you commenting on when you drive it normally?

If normally, it’s possible they remapped the throttle inputs to be less sensitive. Just give it more “gas.”

Yes, both AWD extended range. I believe the batteries are actually different, though. 2021 definitely felt like it had more punch off the line.

Both models AWD and ext range. Interesting that the 2025 is faster on paper but feels slower. I thought the same thing, maybe they adjusted the throttle. I will try more "gas!"

I would say that you need some instrumentation (like a Dragy) or a documented quarter mile run or three to verify whether the new car is up to snuff or not. Seat of the pants can be deceiving because it’s subjective. My 2021 hit harder off the line than my 2024 but the 2024’s numbers are better. 🤔🐩

Also try the different drive modes.

They have different throttle mapping.

One isn’t faster than the other, you just have to push the pedal down farther to accelerate the same in whisper for example.

Did your 2021 hit harder? Do you remember if they ever adjusted that over the years? Personally I think my car is slower now then when I bought it, but I think that is me being used to, mashing the go pedal multiple times a day for 3 years it gets to be more normal. (and I only have a SR AWD). When I let a friend drive it for their first EV experience I now really downplay it, and then they are happily surprised.

My 2021 GT-PE spun the front tires more than my 2024 GT with Performance Upgrade off the line. Once they start moving, the 2024 GT is both quicker and faster, especially after 5 seconds. Note that I have the same set of tires and wheels (down to the lug nuts) on my GT as I had on the GT-PE, so it’s a valid A to B comparison. 😁🐩

My 2025 does have different tires and wheels. I have considered that it might make a difference.
