I could have done with less “term purity” around the Mustang name, but I did think that they made some fair points. And my confirmation bias dopamine hit came from the 40k variant. I should have bought the lowest trim. The RWD standard is a steal for value.

I also thought the ex-Tesla employee’s view on MME vs MY was illuminating.

Yeah, I agree with most of what they were saying other than the comments on Ford’s name choice. Ford owns the copyright so they can call it that. WRT it not “driving like a Mustang,” it’s the Premium trim. They said it was soft and comfortable. For a few thousand more than the Premium with the GT nose a customer can get an actual GT with Magneride, bigger front brakes, etc. While the stock GT is still way too soft and unresponsive for me, most of the public will think it drives quite well. 🤷‍♂️🐩

Oh, and I totally agree with the assessment that a car needs a start/stop button. 😁🐩

I wonder if Ford labeling the Mach-E as a Mustang is the same as Porsche making the Cayenne, Macan, Taycan, Panamera. They are building a line of Mustang vehicles.

There are no blue ovals on the exterior of the MME or the ICEstang so you may be on to something. They've already started down that road with the Bronco name. The unibody Bronco Sport was on dealer lots nearly a year ahead of the body-on-frame Bronco and I think that was very intentional.

There should be a Ford emblem at the top middle of the Mach-E windshield, provided it has factory glass. While the background is not blue, it's still the ovaline Ford emblem. Other than that, there are no Ford emblems on the exterior of the MME. 🤔🐩

Look on the spoiler above the rear window where the backup lights are. One of those lenses has a teeny, tiny Ford oval as well.

The fact that Ford made it a Mustang is why the car looks this good: 60 years of design heritage to pull from. Otherwise, it’d look like a shitty Edge, or worse, a Model Y.

Since I generally don't like manufacture's logos/badges I really like the fact that it doesn't have the blue oval plastered over it. Same with my wife's Mustang.

As for the "it isn't a Mustang". I just take that as Ford's "compromise". Between the technical challenges of making an EV in the form of an actual Mustang and also getting a form factor that would actual sell I think putting that name/styling on the car was probably the right thing to do. I sort of wonder if it would have sold just as well with just the Mach-E badge, but we will never know, since you can't take two paths through history. I personally, just call it a Mach-E. It is too much of a mouthful to call it a Mustang Mach-E. But I definitely think the car would be "diminished" if they didn't have the pony on it even if it had the styling.

But I will say one more thing about "it isn't a Mustang". There are some models of Mustangs that I would say look less like a "Mustang" than the Mach-E does. I think they did the name proud with the styling of the Mach-E.

Definitely agree!!!

Every time I say I should look to see if there are other EVs I might buy when my lease is up, I keep coming back to the fact that most of them don't have the nice styling that the Mach-e has.

My issue with the video: clean the damn grill before the shoot! But also, using an appearance package-priced car for the value comparison is really dumb. Overall a cute(ish) but very lazy video.

As for the name chosen by Ford, I'm in the they-built-it,-they-own-the-name,-so-they–get-to-decide-what-it's-called camp. But, as evidenced by this video, even five years later Ford is getting press publicity because of the name. The fact that it is controversial has had to drive tons of sales. What would be interesting is to know if it hurt ICE Mustang sales at all...

Designing an engineering, the Mach-E as a “Mustang“ was not something that Ford did on a whim. They knew there was gonna be tremendous pushback from diehards so overcome by anemotional connection to the brand that the heresy of producing a BEV in an SUV form factor bearing the Mustang name would be more than they could take.

So much so they actually made a movie about it. If you have 20 minutes it’s worth watching.

That was basically a critique on the name and very little on the performance of the Mach E.

Still think Mach 3 would have been better name. Keep Mach 1 only for the two-door Mustang.

They could always turn the 3 around to an E in the advertising to let people know it's electric.
